hello
i have a amptron 3756LMT+ s/s630 motherboard with a celeron 733 cpu . i'm trying to get some info on how i can overclock this cpu ? i read that the celeron's are the best for overclocking but i can't get anything over 733 from it ? the board has no jumpers on it for the fsb / cpu speeds and if i go into bios settings and set the fsb to anything over 66Mhz
the system willnot boot backup. i have to clear the cmos to boot backup ? i tryed cooling the system down and tryed again and still the samething happens
. i updated the bios with the flash update and still nothing ? is there anything i can do about this ?
is there something i over looked or is it that this board
can not be overclocked ?
thanks
Mike

What are yoiu runnign heatsink wise it might be a heat issue or it could be that the board dosen't like being at that FSB.
What is your system Temp under load and not under load

the only thing i have for cooling is what came with the cpu it's a cool master. i was told that these cpu's run
hot and that 100F to 112F Is Normal ? i run the system with the cover off because i think the temp is a little to high aswell ? i'm thinging about going and getting some thermal paste and see about a more powerfull fan for it and see if that will help cool it down

Those Celerons have a huge multiplier.

They don't overclock well at all.

Unless its a cD0 100mhz FSB one.

The problem isnt with the Celeron, it;s with the motherboard. Get rid of the cheap Amptron and get yourself a quality overclocking aimed motherboard like an Abit or an Asus.

Amptron boards are absolutely horrible.

I'll totally agree with this statement! For those who don't know, Amptron boards are made by PC Chips, one of the absolute worst for motherboards out there. Their website is useless (when it's up and running right), there's virtually no tech support, bla, bla, bla.

I've got a PC Chips here, that I got thru e-BAY. Found out too late to cancel my bid, and everyone else wisely didn't touch it. Fortunately, I didn't pay much for it. It's a slot one, P II board, that needs a BIOS flash to run a Celeron 300A, for cryin' out loud!! I've got a P II 233 coming, and hopefully with that chip, I can get it to run right. I'm going to attempt to piece together an old AT rig with it, for my niece. If it isn't 100 % stable, or even close, I won't even throw it away intact, I'll take a hammer to it. ???

Let's put it this way... OEM Compaq motherboards overclock better. "Nuff said.

I'll also agree with the above earlier statement about the multi on that chip hurting your overclock. Those high multi Celerons (667, 700, 733,766) are notoriously hard to overclock, due to the high multiplier. Faster default speed does not always equate to faster overclock speeds. This chip is a prime example of this. You'd have much better luck with a Celeron 566, 600 or 633. (low multi chips).

Dang, thats real bad. That makes my old Tekram look good.

I must apologize if I seemed a bit brusque... I just had a nightmare when I first got that PC Chips POS. I finally did find out how to go about flashing the BIOS on it, downloaded the BIOS upgrade, etc... but when I went to flash it, it wouldn't work. It did nothing at all...still got the old BIOS in place.

I wound up getting a Tyan board instead. It needed a BIOS flash for the 300A too, but at least Tyan's website has support, and the flash took. (it didn't have overclocking capabilities, but was stable...)

That PC Chips board just caused me sooooo much grief when I was first getting into PC's..... I still see red when I hear the name PC Chips/Amptron.

** Oh yeah...did I mention, because it was my first attempt building a PC,and I didn't know better, that trying to install Win98 on a motherboard that doesn't have a microcode update for a Celeron 300A in the BIOS, it takes over 19 hours for Windows to install?!?!? And then crashes every two minutes?? I got more BSOD's with that board than with every other one I've had since COMBINED, and I never had the thing really running.... I'm curious to see what it will do with a P II 233 (which it's built to run), if it runs at all... **

We used to order them at the store/repair center I worked at. I begged and pleaded with the owner to stop buying them. I mean 75% of them were dead out of the box. And the ones that did work, died shortly there after. But he kept on ordering them.

Needless to say the place went bankrupt.

I hate those boards with a passion.
