i have a friend that doesn't know much about hardware. so, he has a COMPAQ!! it has a duron 700 and uses pc-100 ram. it came with 64 Mb. i just upgraded to an athlon system and was going to let him use an old 128 Mb stick of my pc-100, generic, ram. i put the ram in his system and it will only see 64 Mb of the new stick in any combination of slots. so, it will only go to 128 Mb. also.... there isn't a way of adjusting his FSB or multiplier settings on the mobo or in his bios...... suckin....
he wants to keep that cool little micro-atx compaq case, but he is going to let me pick out an overclockable motherboard and some memory. he has been educated as to WHY compaq sucks!
so..... what is a good, overclocking MICRO-ATX motherboard for a duron 700. i plan to take it up to 900 Mhz. believe it or not, it came with descent heatsink and fan. after he had been playing quake3 for a while his heatsink was still very cool to the touch. so, i think it will be enough cooling. the fan is a Taisol fan, but i'm not so sure about the heatsink. it looks kinda like a volcano2, but maybe it's a Taisol heatsink. i don't know enough about Taisol to really say. i just know it is a good name. i'm using a water cooling setup myself.
