I have a new build system with a AN8 32X SLI mobo and an AMD 4000+ processor. I'm trying to set it up with a Maxtor 200GB IDE hard drive. I can get Windows XP Pro to install the necessary files onto the hard drive, but I can't reboot from the hard drive to complete installation. The system keeps trying to boot from CD, even when I remove the CD from the boot sequence. When I remove the XP install CD from the drive I get an error that the boot media is invalid. It's as though the BIOS recognizes the drive (it does show up properly in the BIOS and XP seems to be able to copy to it) but won't let me boot to it. Is there some BIOS setting that I'm overlooking that will get it to boot the drive? The HD boots fine in another machine.

I had no problems with my AN8 32X even when doing the onboard raid (although it was a little trickier) .

Make sure you have you "boot order" correct in the bios (also to check what sata/pata controller(s) your using and they are enabled).

Second , sometimes if there are too many drives during a Windows install ; windows kinda gets "mis-directed" (due to too many drive letters ie: c/d/e/f/g , etc ). Althought it seems like windows is being installed on you main drive ...its not . I know it sounds wierd , but it happens and has happened to me plenty over the last 15yrs . So , to avoid that possibitity make sure to have only your main hd and one cd/dvd-rom installed during the os install ( no usb external drives either );this way there is no way for windows to get confused or redirect to a wrong drive letter .

Hope this helps ;)
