I've recently built a new system:

Asus P5WD2-Premium MB
P4 640 3.2Ghz
Antec Truepower2 TPII-550 ATX12v
connect3D Radeon X800GTO 256MB
WD SE16 250GB SATA 300MB/s
Mushkin eXtreme Performance 2x1Gb (PC2 6400)

I believe my PSU isn't working perfectly and it may have a heat problem but I wanted to see if anybody else thinks it's normal or not with this PSU. All my voltages are perfect but the Bios and Asus PC Probe II is reporting that my Power Fan is only running around 770 - 820 rpm. Is this normal or should it be faster? This PSU has one 120mm fan at the bottom. Should I change it out?

Also, I wanted to run the SiSoftware Sandra Lite burn-in wizard but it stops the test right away because it's reporting that my PSU temp is over 77C. Once it reported it was at 105C.

I've got this system running at 4Ghz now and it's stable, or as far as I know since I haven't really stressed the system to find out, which is why I wanted to run the burn-in wizard.

This is normal with the TruePower II line. To get the low noise output they claim, they don't allow the fan to spin fast, even when the unit requires it.

If you were to change it out, you'd want a fan that has decent pressure.

Talk to larva, he's done some work with his TP II to make it not heat up so bad.

Thanks for letting me know that it's normal for this PSU. I will ask larva on what changes he did make because I don't feel comfortable with the PSU running so hot.

I was running the PC Probe on my 2nd monitor while I was running the AITTool on my primary monitor checking max clocks and such when I started to notice the PSU fan speed start to rise from 780rpm up to almost 990rpm. Then I started wondering how hot my PSU actually is so I stopped ATITool.

I may just up and spend the money for another PSU. Any recommendations?
Well, I guess I'll check with larva first to see what he did.

What's your price range and are you going after silent computing or do you mind some noise?

For your setup, the Seasonic S12-500/600w is good if you want very quiet computing.

An OCZ 520w is overkill but at least it's better than underpowering your system.

The Zippy 460w will do but I don't know how loud it is. It's an industrial type unit, where performance is more important than noise. The Sparkle FSP550-60PLG will also work easily but is also not very quiet.

oh, and :welcome: to the forums :welcome:
