Get guys, doing a new build, finally upgrading my system (sig), and while I waited for 3rd gen to come cuz I wanted to save on the 2700x and x470, and prices did drop quite a bit, now that I see 3rd gen and pcie4, I just have to have it so I'm going to build a zen2 system.

But I don't have unlimited funds, and while originally I wanted something like a WD Black 512GB nvme, cheaper than the Samsung 970, I opted to just forget about ultra fast and figured I can go with Crucial P1 or Intel 660.

But then out of nowhere I saw these ADATA SX8200 drives, they seem to be ultra fast, not quite on the Samsung level, but still x4 pcie and way faster than the above two, and amazing price. Anyone know if this is for real?

Canadian dollars of course, just in case you're wondering why it's the same as a Samsung, lol, it's not, that one is DOUBLE the price.

Still more expensive than the Crucial P1 (https://www.amazon.ca/Crucial-1TB-N...ds=corsair+p1&qid=1563132580&s=gateway&sr=8-2)

but from what I've seen the Crucial is basically a bit faster than SSD 2.5" while the ADATA is on par with real x4 pcie, am I right?

For real.

We reviewed the drive... take a look for it on the front page.

Fast for the money.. a good drive overall.

My biggest regret of my build was going for a pcie nvme drive. I don’t even notice the speed in day to day use. So unless you will actual use the insane speeds just use a sata m.2 drive. So either save money or get a bigger drive for the same money.

I have the 256GB model and the speeds are quick:) https://www.amazon.com/XPG-SX8000-G...a+sx8200&qid=1563142567&s=gateway&sr=8-8&th=1
If you can afford it, it's great. If you need to cut some costs, Look for something else. It's a good deal but THIS (NVMe x4) is not one of those - You've got to have items. A SSD drive yes :) A PCIe x4 drive no...
You will see a bigger increase in speed from spending the extra $100 on a better CPU (better cpu cooler for higher overclocks) or a better Video Card.

Well, the 3700x is sold out everywhere, I missed out on that, so I have to wait, I'll buy everything at once. I did decide on the Asus TUF Gaming mobo, it has BT and wifi and everything else I need for a 'relatively' great price.

I did notice this, I wonder what this is about, it's still x4 but much cheaper, the SX8200 regular, not the pro, at 960GB, and it's $50 cheaper than the pro (which itself is much cheaper than the Samsung)

That being said, the WD Black 1TB is on sale at the moment at a similar price to the SX8200 Pro, so I may just pick that up.

The non-pro https://www.amazon.ca/XPG-SX8200-96...ywords=sx8200&qid=1563485574&s=gateway&sr=8-2

The WD on sale, open box: https://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=569_179_1229_1296&item_id=128497

That Sabrent looks really interesting!

The TUF appears to be a decent choice. Same VRM as the ROG models.

If you're just gaming and not doing large file transfers on the regular, I agree with many of the posters above: you don't even need NVMe much less PCIe x4 compatible NVMe. You can google side by side comparisons of games loading from SATA drives vs NVMe, you'll realize the drive speed is no longer the bottleneck in loading a game, even with SATA.

Yeah, all that is true, I have seen the Windows load time as well and NVMe hardly improves upon regular SSD on even that, let alone anything else. So you're right, I don't "need" it, but heck, I have an m.2 slot with x4 pci-e 4.0 slots on the cpu that are reserved, might as well use them, but no way am I getting the 970 Pro, but the SX8200 Pro seems to be the great middle, almost same performance at half the price. Or even the non Pro which is on par with the Crucial P1 for the same price right?
