The History:
I built this computer to have a faster computer than the Dell my dad and brother use. I really wanted to get into PC gaming. I bought the parts, assembled the computer and installed a copy of XP Pro 3 times. Two of the three times I had to reinstall because it froze during the setup, so I had to rebot. The computer would run for an hour and a half to two hours tops, then freeze (and sometimes give me a blue screen). Keyboard and mouse would not respond, so I had to reboot. I got a copy another copy of XP Pro (Corporate) from a friend and installed that without a hitch. I figured I had gotten a bad copy of XP Pro the first time and I was set. Alas, the problem started again this time only freezing up. I came to the forums and asked for help (This thread) I tested RAM overnight and that (apperntly) isn't the problem. I checked the temperature via BIOS and it says System Temerature is consitently at 33 degrees Celsius (I'm not sure, but I think I can trust the BIOS temps).

The Problem:
It has gone from bad to worse. It used to just be freeze ups. Now I can't even see the BIOS screen at boot up. The case fans, cpu fan and GPU fan I can hear running (mosly Case and CPU fans). It just shows a black screen like the monitor isn't even on. I know it's on because the monitor power light blinks (like it's on stand by). I honestly have no idea what's wrong. I hope I've explained enough to at least give you a rough idea of what's wrong. Any ideas? Computer is in signature.

I think you have a hardware problem. I would remove all plug in cards except video and remove all but one hard drive and one CD ROM and one stick of RAM. Do a clean install of windows and see if it runs in this basic configuration. If yes, then you know that one of the components you took out is causing the problem. If no, reinstall the heatsink on your CPU using good heatsink compound. Also, switch the RAM sticks. See if it runs. If yes, reinstall components one at a time and test until your computer is complete. If no, you are down to the mobo, cpu, psu, one ram stick, one hard drive, and one CD ROM. Replace them one at a time with borrowed components if possible. At this point, the psu would be my first suspicion and the mobo the second.

Good luck.

System temp is not the one that is important. The one to check is the CPU temp. I also agree it is hardware if it is not a heat issue with the CPU.

Also what slot is the sound card and your other cards in?

Ok the CPU temp fluxutates from abou 38 to 42 degrees Celsius.

My sound card is in the bottom most PCI slot.

[Edit] Forgot to mention that I ran MemTest86 for 17 hours and 45 minutes (made 22 passes and diddn't get an error). Still, I'll try what you said about testing hardware.

Your CPU temps are probably OK. Go ahead and test in the minimum configuration I described above.

Ok. This is weird. I did what you said and it booted up just fine. I tested it with the other stick of RAM and it worked just fine (both without the sound card). Then I tried each stick with the sound card and it boots up fine. This is real weird. Before it wouldn't even boot up. I'm very confused.

maybe something wasn't pushed in far enough i had a problem about 3hrs ago after sorting out my waterblock on the cpu the computer failed to boot and i couldnt figue out why for about 5mins i just removed both my sata cables and reinserted them and it was fine!

Apperently that was the boot up problem. As to the BSOD problem, I'll post if I have anymore trouble.

Freezing problem just occurred while downloading the updates. It froze while the 16th of 17 updates. A friend of mine suggested that I press the Num Lock key to see if the computer is or isn't completely locked up. Unfortunately, it is completely locked up.

[Edit] I think the nVidia Firewall and ForceWare Network Access Manager are the source of the problem although I hate to do a Reformat/Re-install (yet again). No evidence to support that, just a suspicion.

[Edit 2] I've also updated Windows and I haven't installed any drivers except for what came on the CD with the motherboard.
