Although i have the highest score on the database for a Duron with a voodoo 3 (see here), I want to get higher. My current mark for 3dMark 2001 is 1921, but id like to hit the 2000 mark smack bang in the face.

Here's my system:

- Duron 850Mhz @ 1054Mhz (140.50x7.5) [31C idle, 45C full load]
- Abit KT7E motherboard with v4.32 '4in1 service pack' drivers
- Voodoo 3 2000 143Mhz @ 170Mhz
- 256MB Crucial PC133 ram @ 140.50Mhz @ Turbo @ Cas 2 @ 4-way interleave

Any more tweaks/tips/mods/fixes/updates/anything i can do to improve the score and hit the big 2K?

cheers lads.

cheers. i have just tweaked the voodoo card a bit more and the fsb and have reached 1928 ....im getting there.....slowly! havent looked at the site yet, but will do now.........72 marks to go......come on 2000!

nope....done all those tweaks on tht site and still no 2000 marks ....any more ideas?

Man, I gotta say that your Voodoo is holding you back... I had a friend with a Duron 700@950 who couldn't break 3300 in 3DMark 2000 with his V32K. I can guarantee you that you're not going to get much further. memory tweaks generally do wonders with 3DMark, and it seems that you already have covered that area. If you ask me, fretting over 72 points in 3DMark is pointless, esp. in your situation. You'll save yourself a lot of stress if you just drop the coin for a GeForce 2 MX or similar card... you'll see a vast improvement. (PS I have a Duron700@950, memory running at 100 MHz CAS2, with all my video card settings tweaked, and I get 3200 in 3DMark2001 and 6700 in 3DMark2K) I think you can get an MX400 for around $70 plus shipping..... which is amazing for the performance increase you will get. Nothing will help you more.

its not the fact that i want to have really high performance. its a test for my abilities in tweaking a system. 2000 points is my goal, and if i am able achieve 2000 points, it will give a great sense of acheivement from the system setup i have. granted my voodoo 3 2000 is pants, granted my Duron is struggling (not until i do the voltage mod though!) and granted my mem is being pushed hard, but being able to acheive such a high score with such a system will make me more confident in system tweaking and performance enhancing. if i do succeed 2000 it will hopefully end up filling my brain with all knowledge of performance increase. i want to get the MOST out of my system, not just overlcock it and 'wham-bam thankyou ma'm' it. ...come on guys, you gotta know the feeling.....reaching for the stars........blah blah blah..........yes.......i WILL get a GeForce of some sort and it WILL give me high scores and performance, but for now, i have a challenge.

see! im getting there nearly!...im on 1954, previously 1928 ...........come on!!!!!

Try blasting your case with lots of cold air while you run the test. Put a "regular" fan blowing in to the side of your case with the side off. (A big fan, the one you use in your house kind of fan)
That might help keep your system cooler and could give you the boost to 2000. It's worth a try, it won't huirt anything.

hmmm...i dont think temp would help as it doesnt lock up due to high temps.....ill try it though....

what is your desktop resolution set to?
I lost about 50 points on my score when I changed from 640x480 (2958 ) to 1280x1024 (2938 ).
You can try lowering your resolution and seeing if it helps...
I know it isn't really a tweak, but if it works, hey, why not?

good luck getting your 2k!

hmmm.... thats sort of cheating...its not really a performance gainon the whole....i may have to resort to that in the end though ! ;)

man!! im really making my RAM, Duron and motherboard scream....well...sorta......ive manage to bump my FSB to 150!...thats excellent considering my motherboard is a kt7e (100fsb shipset) it took a lot of work to get it to that....ive now hit 1978 3dmark2k1 marks!!!!!!!!!!...its rising baby! - whoo-pah!!!!! .........22 more points!!! ....my computer is being squeezed more and more...every last drop.....im gonna do the ol' voltage mod as soon as i can get hold of some resistors
