ok ,ive tried so many and they never seem to work. the way i understand that they have done what they are supposed to is 1 when you right click my computer, and choose properties,in device manager ,in disk drives it should tell you what your drive is[not "GENERIC TYPE 47!] 2 when you choose the properties of your drive the DMA should be auto ticked and greyed out right? thats how my mates asus cusl2-c is after the correct install of drivers??so anybody know which ones do the job and how to get em to work? ......ive used 4.31 & 4.32 no change from factory 4.28 and they arent doing what i just described !......thanks dudes!!!!!!!!!!

yeah I am always scared with the new 4in1 I would say 4.28 is the best as I had problems with 4.32 and had to remove them. to each his own I guess.

mmm but does any 1 know which ones work and how they installed them? just dont forget what i mentioned before that you will know if it has actually worked by how your dma drives will be shown in their properties .......................

WHat do the 4in1 drivers DO? I have a Gigabyte GA-7ZX, and I haven't even installed the drivers. What do they do (or rather, what are they SUPPOSED to do)?

they are supoosed to recognize your HDD for what is is and not just a generic model, also supposed to enable ultra dma capabilties of your mobo.by this you are ensuring bandwidth at the expected ata100! well its supposed to! cmon some1 respond to this ! we all need to know this

I just installed the 4.32 and if their supposed to recognize
the hard drive, it didn't. It still shows generic. So did it
do something wrong. If anyone has the time, "can
some one tell me how your supposed to install the
file. I clicked setup and checked every install box, and
that was it.

This question is somewhat related to the orignial post.

I have read several posts, over the past months, that allege that you should boot up in Safe Mode before applying a VIA driver update. No reason was given and I was wondering if this was documented at the VIA site as a certainty?

Remember that your friends CUSL2-C isn't even based on a VIA chipset and as such doesn't even use 4-in-1's.

Provided that 4-in-1's are installed correctly (and remember that millions of people succesfully install them everyday) they will work fine in over 99.9% of circumstances.

It may be that you need to break some old habits and get back to basics in order to install them.
If DMA isn't ticked out automatically, tick it out manually - it isn't no big deal.

It is also not the 4-in-1's that recognize your hard drive for what it is and not a generic type 47 - it is windows itself and the BIOS that pick up the strings from the integrated driver electronics.

I think that you may have a great deal of misconceptions which you are trying to imply on people incorrectly and unjustly.

remember there are 4 drivers.in device manager check yhe + box next to hard disc controllers, highlight 1 click properties check the driver file details it will tell you the via version.so thats three.
as far as the other my understanding is(and i could very well be wrong)it is a vxd having to do with graphics dma,so it would be with agp card or monitor.i dont install that one myself i use the nvida drivers.

I installed the VIA 4in1 from the CD that came with my mobo. It was 4.23. It's hosed me. All I got were colored lines when I booted into windows, but safemode was OK. So I downloaded and copied 4.32 to a Superdisk (LS-12), and ran the unistall from that in safe mode, then went back into safe mode and installed the 4.32 drivers one at a time. I didn't hose me, but I didn't check on everything yet.

it will always say generic disk type 47 the 4n1 drivers install updated busmastering drivers and updated GART drivers and the like, and allow windoze to install the proper, most current, chipset drivers

I didnt install the drivers in safe mode. What does this mean for me? I especially need my hard-drive to be as fast as it can, I do a lot of 3d and photo editing **** so a fast hard-drive is needed. I have an 45Gb IBM 7200rpm ATA100 and windows says its a generic type 47 just as everyone else said. Does this mean if I re-install the drivers in safe mode I will get a performance increase?

If I knew alot, I would neverhave installed 3R in the first place. Though lesser speeds seem more stable, I can no longer run 10x150 or 10.5x145 at any voltage. It gets weirder from there. I try to run 3D Mark 2001 and can't get out of the first test anymore. Used to screem all the way. Tried reinstalling 3C and my trysty YH, but no change. Back with 3R now. Figure if I stepped in it, I might as well walk it off. ;D
