Anyone ever tried replacing component casing?

Building a plexicase and toying with the idea of modding most, if not all, the components into plexi encasements. Would be quite cool to be see everything running, just not sure how much can be replaced with plexi instead of metal.

Well, if you're going to do it, do so before building the case. You won't be able to make the drive components inside the case any smaller, so the plexi being thicker than the steel on your drives, would make your drives larger than standard. Also make sure they have cooling vents because the metal case 'sinks heat to the outside.

It would be sweet to see..kindof like the 'visible human project'.

ya thought of the heat issue and figured once I got started I could vent the plexi . I need to find out the thinnest plexiglass is available right now my case is 1/8 so I know it's going to be flexi, but since it's not supposed to be carried around everywhere I figured it'd be fine.

If the case is going to be near the monitor, then you may have to do something about magnetically shielding the HDs or the monitor. I really don't know how you could pull it off (for the HDs at least), but it would certainly make you great among modders. Good luck!

I don't really know how that would affect the laser in the CD. The best way to find this out, though, is to try it with some older stuff that you can afford to sacrifice.
