I'm looking for an inexpensive receiver to replace my 10 year old, beaten up Aiwa CX-NA50 bookself system. It was good back in the day, but it's seen full volume too many times. And it lived in a high sulfur town for over a year, so the front panel controls are all screwed (copper doesn't like sulfur).

So, my fiance's mom usually spends around $150 or so on each of us for Christmas...so I was thinking I might tell her to get me this:

Insignia™ 600W 6.1-Ch. A/V Home Theater Receiver Model: IS-HC040917

I know it's not "the best" But it does have SVideo inputs that I am looking for, and it fits the price range (Only one I've seen in the price range that does have Svid inputs)
So, has anyone used or at least seen/heard this thing? I know I probably need to goto bestbuy and see if I can hear it and play with it, and I'm sure I will sometime soon. But it'd be nice to hear some users reviews.

I think you might be able to score a Yamaha receiver for around $50 more. I mean any receiver would work ok, personally I'm using a Zenith 5.1 receiver on my PC. MSRP on this thing was probably $150 back in the day but for my PC it's the best damn thing ever. Even has sub output.

yeah, I did see some decent ones for around $200...but I'm trying to keep this $150 or less. I guess I'll have to goto Bestbuy and see if I can get a listen.

100watt @
Total Harmonic Distortion 1% @ 1kHz
Which meens its not 100 watt per channel at all, or even close.
Concidering you are going to need to invest in some speakers anyway, why dont you jsut shout a lil bit more for yourself and get something a lil more decent and ready for the long term, or pick something up second hand?
Audio gear (despite your experiance with current system) generaly doesnt degrade in quality that much. And a nice Yamaha amp would get my vote aswell
