Anyone think the Geforce 3 is worth it?

I saw that the Geforce 3 pre-ordering has begun. I'm currently running a Voodoo 5 and I have seen the benchmarks of the Geforce 3. It's definately a fast card but really wont show its power until more DirectX8 games hit the market. Anyone think its worth its $540 tag?

Here are my other specs for now.
1.2gig Thunderbird (266fsb)
256meg PC2100 (soon to be 512)
Biostar M7MIA DDR motherboard
Ricoh DVD/CD-RW
30gig Maxtor 7200rpm HD

simpel answer: NO! not untill i dicide i NEED fsaa.

A site i frequent would not even test the card as the price was so high. If the price is that high IMO the cards not even worth looking at.

Any card that drops it's price from an estimated $700 to around $500 Before It Even Comes Out is a card I would wait to buy later.

Seriously, in about a year, or perhaps sooner (when ATI's next big thing hits the streets), the price on these things will drop, DirectX8.x will be the assumed standard, and games like Unreal II will begin to be developed to take advantage of the programmable GPU and other features.

If these things happen, and the price gets around $300 or below, then and only then would I consider buying one.

Or, I might just get the new Radeon.

I asked a guy at Best Buy... he said they should be selling GeForce3's by the end of April at something like $300-$400. Might actually be decent at that price, but still only for the hardcore gamer... still too much for me.

i got a hercules prophet 2 ultra @290 mhz and in cs i stay at 99 fpsin 1280x960 32bit mode im gonna be building a new 1.2ghz(i think maybe faster) watercooling ocing systeme and i was thinking about the hercules prophet 3 or just keep my hercules in it and put my old voodoo 5 in this p3 933 (which is going to my dad) and if you buy the ultra or even the pro (i suggest a hercules) it will blow away your voodoo 5 i switched from voodoo 5 5500 to the ultra and i was amazed

Are you joking?!! Why do you even have to ask this? Is a Pentium 4 processor worth $500? Would an Athlon 1.33 GHz be worth $500? Would an 80 GB hard drive be worth $500? Would 256 MBs of PC133 memory be worth $500?

NO! Don't support Nvidia's Intel pricing scheme. You'll only be burned when the GF3 is worth $250 in 4 months when the Radeon II is released.

I hate to tell you this but you can get a constant 99 FPS on a Radeon. So if that's the only game you play, I'm sorry to say but you got ripped off.

This is off topic but for the guy playing cs the command cl_showfps 1 will show your fps but only up to 99. This also hurts your fps if you leave it on. To fine out your true fps type timerefresh in the console. I get over 140 with my Gforce1 ddr 256 so you should be a little higher

Btw thats 140 @ 1240x768
