I'm looking to pick up a mobile Barton 2500 from newegg today and I was wondering if they were still multiplier unlocked?

Also 2500 or 2600? Any big differences?

yes the mobiles are still unlocked because they have this special power saving function where they dial down the multiplier when the cpu is in idle to save power. Also no there is not a big difference between 2500 and 2600 as far as overclocking is concerned. The steppings are more important for overclocking.

Cool, thanks. What steppings am I looking for for optimal overclock potential?

This has nothing to do with whether the L1/L3 configuration is die-locked or not. Read my rant/info at
http://www.emboss.co.nz/amdunlock/
for my explanation of the situation. Having a die-locked L3 configuration, but PowerNow enabled will not help you at all on a nvidia board.

Yeah, the best stepping around available right now is the IQYHA 0352MPMW, I think excalliberpc has those guaranteed (XP-M 2600+), and some people have reported getting these steppings on XP-M 2600+s from newegg too.
