Are the new cards really worth it?

I currently have a crap LCD monitor IBM TFT15 or something like that. Max resolution for it is 1024 by 768. I am probably going to get a newer LCD such as Samsung 172x when the prices drop or when I cannot use this one anymore but the native resolution on that is 1280 by 1024.

Is it really worth it for me to get an X800 Pro or another card for my SFF? Max I can probably run with 240w is probably an X800 Pro but is it worth it if I am only going to be running 1024 by 768 or 1280 by 1024 resolution? I want my settings as high as possible but I also want it to be worth the cash. Would I be able to max out settings with a good framerate with a Radeon 9800 Pro or another card? Or should I get the X800 Pro for $350.00 using my Best Buy card?

Im my opinion....not at all. No videocard is worth more than 250-300$ because in another year, something new is going to be out thats better..then when you get that, something else is gonna be out. I'd wait for the price to go down on these cards if your considering one, they should drop in another 3-4 months...

Buying a 9800 when you can get an X800 just doesn't make much sense IMHO. The difference between the two will definitely be noticeable in gameplay.
