Some of you may remember a while back I said I had a few enlight PSU's in my closet. Well I found myself needing a PSU for a few days on my wifes computer until I received a new on I ordered. So I figure I would use one of htem temporarily until the new unit came in.

Bad mistake. My son comes in my room and says "dad somthings burning". I come out and smell cooked elecronics. After figuring out where it was coming from I was ****ed.

I took the PSU apart and found 1 area where a resistor fried. I looked at the MB and the caps at the VRU are now bulging. Also it apperrs the MOSFETS cooked because some of them have brown areas around them. The MB will not power up now at all. I hope my CPU is not fried. :bang head :bang head :bang head

That really sucks. The good news is that it wasn't your computer.

So at least you know your network is secure for a few days. I know I always feel better about my network security whenever my wife is off the computer. LOL

Disected this a little more and found that this is a FSP PSU. Well it goes to show you that even the good ones smoke. More than likley it was built to substandard specs by customer request. Oh well salvaged a nice yate loon fan out of it.

They do go bad on occasion, no company is perfect unfortunately :(

No the cpu is toast. MB is toast. OH well time to upgrade the wifey to an a64

I once found a 1W resistor that operated at almost exactly 1W in a Fortron/Sparkle, and I think that the manufacturer knew that it needed some air flow for better cooling because the case had a few extra vent holes near it. How long to resistors last when operated at max power without forced air flow?
