i put some Artic silver II on the cpu. Flat and smooth. There the same temps as normal grease. My cpu is idle at 50C. Mainboard 38C. Suggestions????

too much isn't a huge deal, it would just squish out. I am suprised you are getting the same temps, but they are good for a mini on a Tbird. Your system temp is very very high, you need to get some better case ventilation so you can lower your CPU temps.

Your profile shows a mini orb as a heatsink. Artic silver cannot work miracles. My guess is that is your problem.

The mini orb was better than my old cooler master.
With the cooler master it was at a high 67C!! I changed the hsf and now it is lower!! I have a case fan in the front of the case, vantec air circulater, and the psu fan. do you think i need a slot fan? my case does not have a 80mm hole for a fan.

you need to have more airflow coming in. Your case temps are very high. You may want to cut another hole for an 80mm fan. A better hsf would help too, I am not suprised you saw an improvement with the orb, but that doesn't mean the orb isn't great.

William hit the nail on the head. Your case temp and hence mainboard temp seem way too high. That is assuming your PC room temp is not, like, 35C. You didn't mention a blowhole, so I assume your poor HSF has to use that 38C air to try to cool the CPU. It would do a lot better job using say, 25C air to cool the CPU.
