Here is a picture of the components i'm planning on using.

A couple questions:
1) i anyone else running that cpu on that board with it overclocked. i would like to reach about 4.5ghz for day to day stuff with ease and not have to muck around alot to get that working. and i would like to push that thing up to around 5.5ghz. will this mobo be able to handle that or will i have to do funny buisness to get the mosfets and vregs to stay cool.

2) what is your opinion of this motherbord build quality wise? (ie. is there any particular parts that i should be carefull with. and have you had many issues with it)

3) is there a different motherbord with z68 gen 3 that you would reccomend over this one. that retains the ability to use an LGA775 cooler.

Good luck getting your 2500k to 5.5GHz without an insane voltage.. :eh?:
I'm running a Maximus IV Gene-Z, but I don't think it's capable of using a 775 cooler.

ya i could settle for 5.0 like i said thou thats only gonna be on ocassion when im pushing for a high clock 95% of the time il gonna be at 4.5 or so

Many people. It is a popular and solid board. The Extreme 4 in its P67 iteration was very popular and has a huge (relatively very happy) user base. Many have high overclocks. 4.5 is a joke for such a board as it is higher tier. No issues there :). Will the mobo handle 5.5? I think yes. The thing is all that voltage will shorten your CPU life.

This is a good board ASRock has transformed since its beginning and produces some seriously competetive stuff.

Yes. And no. I'd take ASUS P8Z68V Gen 3 but this does not have the dual cooler option. Then again a 212+ is $25. I do not think this board is better but I have used it and found it excellent (non gen 3) so I do recommend it in this price range as the board of choice in my opinion but no you can not use 775 coolers. What cooler of 775 are you thinking of re using? You know it mounts on about a 5 degree angle right?

Either board, Extreme 4 or V, is a very good choice, and you will get where you want on either. They're so close on quality you could pick by color honestly.

Any reason you want to pay high $ for 1333 dominator ram when 50 bucks or less gets you 8GB of average decent 1600Mhz? The performance difference with super high end ram to say a gamer is pretty darn negligable. I'm running cheap RAM and I have an expensive board. I just don't need that expensive RAM.

1) 4.5GHz is kinda easy. The safest voltage-wise overclock I've reached is 4.8GHz with about 1.37v, that's what I'm running now. The board will be able to reach 5.5GHz. The CPU? Not so sure. IDK if you want to run ridiculous voltages to reach 5.5, but I won't.

2) Quality wise, for me it's perfect.

3) No, only ASR has the Combo Cooler option. Anyway, a CAFA50 or a H212 is kinda cheap.

Tons of people have used that motherboard and CPU combination and have had no issues whatsoever. You'll be perfectly fine with that motherboard for overclocking.

My opinion? Well, I'm no where near close to being an Asrock fan. I'm a big fan of Gigabyte and Asus motherboards. They make top notch quality products.

I don't know about Gen3, but the EVGA Z68 FTW has Socket 775 holes. At least the EVGA P67 FTW does. Solid boards as well.
Other than that, I don't think there's any others.

I dont feel mounting holes should dictate board choice when the CPU he is getting needs a 25 dollar cooler up to almost 5Ghz in most casese JM2C.

I'd prever to see a p8Z68V Gen3 in there personally if I can be honest. P8z68 line is one of ASUS most flawless $200 implementations in... 5 years or so IMO.

Your call.

$77 16GB better spec RAM (1600Mhz). Doesn't need a fan. Nor does what you chose. You could even use XMS3 (XMS, Vengeance, Dominator) in terms over overclockability. Again, 1600Mhz. Fine. We all run it. $77. :).

Beats the (inferior )$139 stuff you had picked out. That's very old hat RAM. Get this instead. Get 'vengeance' on the fact that your Dominators are overpriced buy buying Vengeance line Ram (da dum PshhH!!) (here all week)

That 1333 stuff you had would likely do 1600 max and even then you've overpaid. Even if it scraped 1866 which SO doubt you'd have overpayed a smidge.

G skill 1600 16GB kits are similarly priced if you have an issue with the look or something. Both are reliable brands.
Just figured give the guy the same brand he already wanted but I use Gskill :).

Oh, yes, didn't realised the Dominators.

Unless you LOVE, and by LOVE I mean you want to sell your soul to the Dominator heatsinks (I confess, I also love them), buy any other kind of RAM. IIRC, there were some PATRIOT memory with a very nice price at the egg.

well i wound up going with the p8z68 deluxe/gen3 and ordering a ek supreme HF water block. i had been planning on reusing my old swiftec apogee GT. other than that though the same cpu and ram as in that pic. im a huge asus fan and i like gigabyte as well. and since im making the switch from amd already i felt the asus bord gave me a little more of a degree of comfort since ive quite used to asus products.

one thing is for sure. this is gonna be a big upgrade from my old phenom 940BE which ive been using for 3.5-4 years now

You already bought the HF?

Save the coins and keep using the ApogeeGT. IIRC there was just a 1-3C difference.

Off-topic: What was the name of that watercooling reviews website... Can't remember...

um skinnee labs... also the main reason i didnt want to use the apogeeGT is there is not adapter kit for the 1155 socket for it and i dont have time anymore to make one.
