I am building a machine and I am having a bunch of weird problems..First the machine.
ASUS A7A266
1000mhz axia athlon(133mhz)
128 ddr CAS 2.5 RAM
20.7 gig western digital ultra 100 hard disk
tnt2 32 mb vid card
Intel Modem
D-Link nic
using on board sound

Ok first problem was the ATI Xpert 2000 vid card. Went to ASUS web site and found all kinds of conflicts with Ati vid cards and the alimagik (Think I spelled it wrong) chipset. I changed to the TNT2 vid card and I can get the thing to boot and take sound and video drivers and seems stable but I can't load programs thru the cd drive.....HMMMMM....I get all kinds of file not found etc etc. I did reformat reinstall everything and still the same prob.....Any Ideas???????if it helps I have the HD as Master on ide1 and cd as master on ide2

try shuffling your pci around. I haven't had probs with a Dlink but i was getting all sorts of problems running either a Linksys nic or a SB Live! card in my brothers system on an MSI k7T Turbo. I also changed the slot the ram was in.

Could you verify in Control Panel/System that the HD controller has the:
Primary IDE controller (dual FIFO)
Secondary IDE controller (dual FIFO)
Bus Master PCI IDE Controller for you chip set alimagik?

These handle your HD and CD

pull everything cept the vid card. I also heard ATI PCI cards + VIA chipsets is bad. (as you stated)Plus the drivers sux0r. My friend borrowed my 8 meg all in wonder pro (anchient, not in my current box) and stuck it in his 900/ abit kt7 raid.... BSOD and later no post.... sin sin sin. Had to dump the bios and whatnot. Ironically he also has a Dlink NIC. (?) Its too bad I wanted that board too except the onboard sound ... eww.... and the weird memory configuration. Also...... it could be a damn generic memory thing. But I always think that when ppl have problemz. also check your cables..... i know its a stupid thing but it has caught me a few times. it looks and feelz like its pushed in all the way but its not. Also What OS are you using?

Ok the controller is ali M5229 and both of the devices are in dual fifo. I am currently in the process of shuffling the cards around to see if that will work. It is generic memory but if i don't load from the ide CD-ROM the machine runs fine doesn't sound like a memory error....

The Asus A7A266 is not a VIA chipset, It's a ALI Magik chipset. Although there maybe some hardware conflicts! I just thought I would make that clear.
