I was told that I need a 300w power supply for a Asus a7m266 mobo. I had this enermax 330w EG351P-Ve power suppply I had got at a comp show not too long ago so I decided to hook it up. Next thing you know I turn it on, I smell something burning, turn it off, turn it back on and none of the fans work. The PC boots up and all but the fans are toast...was it a whack board or do I have too much power?

I would find it hard to believe it was too much power supply. I'm running the EnerMax 451 power supply with my A7M266 with no problems. Was the box sealed on the power supply when you bought it? I bought mine retail and it had a factory seal guarding against unauthorized opening. Your problem sounds more like a board problem or else maybe something on the back of the board contacting the motherboard plate and causing a short. Just guesses.

Thanks for the tips. I didn't think it was the psu. i had tried it on another comp and it was cool. took a look at the asus board and someone else had the same prob with the fans.
