Hi there !

I got that Asus Board here and i m finally waiting for my CPU, could someone help me to install it right ?

I mean, which settings on BIOS / DIPs on the board and so on.

Would be great !

Rather than type the whole thing here, I would suggest that you start by reading the motherboard manual.

After that I would guide you to the home page of this site to the "BEGINNERS GUIDE". You should be able to get a handle on what you need to do from this little bit of reading.

Well like Frank said best thing you could do is while your waiting for your cpu is to read your manual on your Mother board really good..But as for the easiest way to set it up is set everything to jumper free mode Jen 1-2 page 18 in your manual will help you. Then put everything together and boot up into your bios
and under advance it should be set to standard the only thing you might have to change is your bus frequency and for that chip you would set it to 133 and if your using pc-133 ram set your dramm frequency to 133 if you have pc-100 set it to 100 and everything should be fine

Good luck

Yeah, that was a good hint, i was not sure, which is the right cpu-clock freq for a Thunderbird, never got an AMD before. I would say i m no newbie at all, this F***ing processor was just too expensive to "destroy" it easyly ;-)
THX for the info !

BTW: The shop said i should take this cooler:

Is that ok ? Anyone knows that one ? I know a lot of ppl who are using "Titan" coolers...

HI Frank,

as i wrote at the other reply...i m no newbie at all and i know how to setup a system normally :) But this time i got my first AMD CPU and Motherboard, and the CPU is like the newest one from AMD as you know, so i didnt know all "special" settings like cpu-clock frequency and so on.

That was my question, ok, maybe i should make that more clear next time :)

I'm sorry if I came off a bit surely to you, there are a lot of people who post in these forums that haven't done even the least amount of research on this subject, and expect, almost demand, all of the answers. It may just be a reflection of the "instant gratification" that our society has come to expect.

As far as your motherboard CPU combination goes I've had several incarnations based on that board and will help you as much as I can with what I know. I'll have some time tonight, and I'll get you all of my specs and try to direct you away from any problem issues I'm aware of.

Good Luck!

Go with the jumperfree mode for starters. The board (if you let it do what it wants) will probably initially boot to 10 x 100Mhz but you have a 133Mhz processor so change the fsb to 133 Mhz to achieve the cpu's nominal setting.

To eliminate some future questions about the CPU look at the L1 bridges prior to attaching the HSF to see if they are closed.
Closed looks like I I I I
Open looks like : : : :
Closed means the multiplier is unlocked.

Never power up the cpu without the HSF as an athlon can fry without one in about 3 seconds.

Hope this is the type of info you were looking for. :)

THX for all your answers, i promise, next time i ll ask not so "stupid" as the first time :)

Greetings,
Ciacomix
