ARGH!!!

That fan which came on the motherboard to cool the VIA chipset north bridge is, to paraphrase Gene Rayburn, "a piece of blank!" When powering up, I have to nudge a fan blade a couple of times - then the rotation starts.

I've noticed it gets very warm in the motherboard cavity of the case and I've recently had problems using the serial ports on my computer and not being able to see my new external modem which had worked earlier in the same day. (So I powered and unplugged the lot, and the next morning I powered up & everything worked fine. So I know it's overheating that was causing the problem.)

Where can I get a replacement fan? Or should I get some thermal glue, and glue on my own heatsink/fan combo? I've got tons of small heatsinks and fans laying around...

Until I see something more worthy of concern, I don't think it's necessary to get an RMA on my 2 month old mobo. The system still runs quite stable otherwise.

Thanks!

have same problem so I just leave my PC on 24/7 but I do notice the same problem let me knwo wht you did to solve it

I havent read of that problem anywhere...could be that you dont have the motherboard mounted properly to your case..i know that cause some power issues, otherwise i agree with oni.

lol, im one of the lucky ones... mines perfect, yet my bro's one makes an evil noise when it starts up...
And this is over here in Australia.

I have placed a Thermaltake Mini Blue Orb on the Northbridge by means of Artic Silver Thermal Adhesive (Good stuff). Maybe the Mini Blue Orb is a kind of overkill on the NB, but just to be sure. Works great.
