Has anybody found the reason why the AMD XPs run so hot on this motherboard?... I tried to run 3dmark 2001 and my motherboard alarm started beeping, saying the CPU was overheating....... I have the volcano 6 HS.... what should I do?

Well I'm getting rid of my POS Iwill XP333R and ordered the A7V266-E. Should Arrive Friday. I'll let you know if theres a big jump in temps. Right now with my GlobalWIn WBK38 HSF I run my XP1800+ at 33c.

at the top right hand corner of the board.. there is a jumper.. for temp setting... one is for Reserved MP and the other is for Athon/Durons.. make sure you have it on MP if you have an XP...and dont forget that Asus temp are always 10C higher than what it suppose to be. so its show 50C its really only 40C...

I went through my motherboard manul to find that jumper last night....... It runs very cool now.... the temp says 59C on idel or on load 59C..... according to MB 5..... Also I can touch the case and feel that its cool.... like with my old mother board and porc i had.... anyway, I am happy now............:p  :D ;) BYE!

if u are talking about the themcpu jumpter then its suposed to be set to the athlon/duron setting the reserved setting is suposed to read the diode on xp and mp cpu's but it dosent work. the reason ur temps seem so high is because on the athlon/duron setting it uses the socket thermister and that reports temps about 10C hotter then they should so whatever mbm5 or the bios or whatever tells u -10 from it and it should be closer to what ur used to seeing

Do not use the "reserved" setting on the Themcpu jumper. If you have an XP, it is still an Athlon. The Reserved setting is just that, it is reserved for any future motherboard updates that might incorporate this. This has already been confirmed by Asus. Do not use the Reserved setting as it will not give you an accurate read.

The Asus Probe that came with my A7V266-E is always popping up saying my CPU fan is above the threshold whatever this means. All I know is this MOBO and Athlon XP cpu are brand new. The cpu is retail with the original genuine heatsink/fan. And yes the HS/F is securely fit correctly on the cpu...

Any ideas?

Don't let it worry you. Asus Probe is not very reliable with fan speeds. It does the same with my system. I now use Motherboard Monitor 5.1 and it works great and does not have these glitches.
