Ok it seems after so many years of doing this I am still capable of learning something.

For the 3rd time since 2010 I have an M4A78T-E AMD mobo that needed RMA. Two times previous it was in for posting issues. This time it would not power up at all just dead.

All went well Im a Pro at RMA's, at least I thought I was  Anyway got my RMA number sent the board in and just a few days ago got my return shipment. They sent me a replacement board new serial number etc. The only issue is this board is minus the plastic heatsink/fan hold downs and the steel back plate they are bolted to the board.

When I sent the board in I switched over to an Asrock motherboard I had purchased and installed my hyper 212 onto that yada yada.

So basically now I need to buy another after market heatsink and CPU fan that replaces the back plate etc in order to run/test or use the board. I don't want to remove the sinks from my running box in order to check it. Easier to just get another fan/sink.

The purpose of my post is I guess to just say that I have never in many RMA's over the years unbolted parts from any motherboard including this one 2x and have always gotten them back. The odd's of that are quite high as I have RMA'ed many boards as I worked for a builder in FL for a couple years and also many personal use boards. Im not angry or anything just amazed :D

They asked me if I wanted the old ones back. They would send me a form and I would need to fill that out and then pay for them and the shipping back to me. I said no thanks it will cost me less to buy a new fan and heat sink and I will get it done in shorter time. lol

The moral of the story is don't send them anything even if it's bolted to the motherboard. I know I won't. Im still scratching my head that It's never happened to me before this.

Almost forgot the best part of the story. Since I had used the hyper 212 on the Asus board before it died I actually bolted the stock CPU sink/fan clips and back plate back on the board before I shipped it figuring they might need it to just pop a stock fan on it for testing

Wow that is messed up. I can understand you receiving an item with parts missing but to make you pay for those parts + shipping. Come on seriously? It was their mess up and they should have included it with the board. Especially if it was a completely different board. I am surprised to hear that Asus didn't offer to send you the parts free of charge. I had Cooler Master send me parts for my Haf 912 which I did not get when i purchased it and it was all free. Also I didn't have to receive any paperwork in the mail and fill it out. I filled out a Parts request and 2 weeks later bam, had my rubber grommets for the back/WC tubes and all the screws. Also I messed up and requested two parts in one request then read that I needed to request parts in separate request forms. So I figured I would only get the rubber grommets. I requested the front fan screws and what do ya know. They sent me not one package but two. One with the front fan screws and the other with the rubber grommet things + all the screws and stand offs needed. So in the end they gave me more then what I requested but realized hey, I didn't get these stand offs when I bought it. +1 for CM -1 for Asus IMO.

I had a issue with Asus back in 2000, Board went bad. Called them up, they said sorry, you need to call such and such #, in the UK. Thank god I had international calling then, called them up, they wanted me to ship the board to the UK and bla bla bla. It was less hassle to just get a new board, but I did not get asus. The GTX570 for formula V is the first Asus product I have goten since then.
