Should be a setting in newer bios to disable APM. If it is disabled then you can most likely set manual Vcore that will work as you raise it instead of you seeing it revert back to almost default Vcore.

Good information. Thanks. CPU temp is important, though at least with some motherboards as they have a thermal shutdown or down-throttling temp threshold that keys off board temp sensors, not core sensors. Usually it can be adjusted, however. There is also the issue of the electronic components on the motherboard itself becoming damaged if temps in the socket are get too high.

RGone - APM is off in the BIOS, but if LLC is not enabled, the actual voltage never changes regardless of what I tell it to be. Go figure...

trents - I had a long phone-go-round with AMD about temps, when I first bought this in November. They said Core temps were relevant. I decided to do some research for more recent info, based on our conversing in this thread. I am now a bit more knowledgeable when it comes to temps for the FX series. I learn/relearn something new every day.

Really, thanks again for all the input you've given. I hope this helps somebody else out, down the road.

Any other input is still welcome. The more I learn, the better.

Update:

At 42 minutes of prime95, a core is stopped due to 0 errors and 100 warnings. I've repeated this 2 more times. It's consistent at 42 minutes. Core temp at time of stop is 53C.

AI Suite (the board monitoring software included at purchase) warns me that HT voltage dropped to 0.153V, but HWMonitor does not show this change or dip.

3 minutes later, AI Suite says DRAM voltage dropped to 0.000V which is also not indicated by HWMonitor.

The other 7 cores are still running fine in prime95.

Should I bump the multiplier down, or should I bump the voltage up?

=======================

Further Update:
I bumped the voltage up one more notch. prime95 successfully surpasses the 42 minute mark. My Core temp is 53C, which is fine by me. If it holds up for 24 hours, I will mark this thread 'SOLVED'.
