I have Asus P2B and I'm going to update it with new processor.
What kind of P3 would be good? What is highest possible freq that
Asus P2B can hadle without crashes?

hey i got a p2b-f and a 650 coppermine P3 100 FSB on the asus 370-slot1 adapter. I have made a lot of upgrades since i got this board and processor (X-Mas) but i got it to boot stable @ 140 (35Mhz PCI). I have backed it off again but thats cause i am busy and havent gotten out to get any decent cooling equiptment. But anyway, it booted fine @ 144 with PC100 (yes, its gone now, i did upgrade to PC133) SDRAM. I say give it a try but make sure you get the 100FSB cause then you can be conservative and set your clock @ 133 until you get the water-cooler.

STOP EVERYTHING!! Please do not make the same mistake as I just did. Make sure your board is a later version of the P2B (R1.12). I just found out the hard way after I had already opened the retail box! DOH! Now I have a P3 800 slot 1 that I will need to buy a new board for in order to utilize. F*#%!!!!!!

you have the later version then......should be good for 800 at least, and with the current bios flash you should be good for the gig e processor.

Take a look in Tips & Techniques/Motherboard reviews it's the 21st from the top
< Upgrading and Overclocking the old Asus P2B Slot 1 Motherboard >

The trick for the earlier version is the slot 1 adapter with voltage adjustments on the card.

Read the post by Ton, I got one of my P2B's to post at 933mz with a PIII700e.

The P2B lives on.

Thanks for all of you! I will try these tricks as fast as I get a new
processor.

Don't make the same mistake that I did. You said that you have R1.02. You will need R1.12 in order to use the P3 800MHz slot 1. As mjokes said, the way to pull this off with the earlier version that you have is to utilize an adapter w/voltage adjustments. By the way, there is a beta bios 1013 available on the Asus site.
