I just bought Asus P4P800 - intel 865PE chipset, and I'm not familiar with the new Bios menu. I really need help anyone here to teach me some useful knowledge. I'm thanking you in advance.

My processor is P2.4C (800) with HT & PAT enable.

In Dram Frequency Menu: I can select 266, 333, 400, Auto.
I select 400 because my memory is Samsung PC3200 256mb x 2. My question: Why this value do not increase linearly as I increase FSB to 240 ? It's still show 400. Is this mean the memory speed remain 400 or 480 DDR (240x2) ?

In SiSoft Sandra 2004 System Summary, in the report section, it's written " Chipset1: Memory Bus Speed 2 x 240 ( 480MHz Data Rate ). What is this mean? Is it the chipset doing 2 x 240MHz but not on the DDR modules? Or both chipset and memory are running on the same speed 1:1 ?

I can't go any higher than 240FSB stable right now. I don't know what is limiting me. Maybe the memory at 480MHz ?

What should I do? I'm stuck at 2.88GHz. I really want to know the actual speed of DDR memory when I'm doing 240FSB.

266, 333, 400 - memory divider options. If you select 400 the ratio is 1 to 1 at whatever fsb speed you select, so if you're running 240 then your ram is 240 also. Since it's DDR ram that's 2X240=480 data rate. If you have PC3200 ram then I'm amazed you're able to get to 240 1:1. Most PC3200 dimms top out at 220 1:1. Try changing the divider to 333 and see if you can overclock higher.
 
Thanks TC.... I will try 333 as new DRAM selection. So according to you : " if you're running 240 then your ram is 240 also. Since it's DDR ram that's 2X240=480 data rate." ..... I hope you are right, sir. This means my memory is limiting me back, right?

Okay then ..... I go slower ratio (333) and see what happen next.

Regarding my PC3200 is just generic Samsung TCCC modules. I can't afford PC3500 yet. My secret is using 2.85v VMem and CL3 - 3 - 3 - 8 - 8 setting.

TC is correct, you reached your limit with the RAM using the 1:1 ratio (400 setting). Dropping down to the 5:4 ratio (333 setting) should allow you to overclock much higher. For example, 250 FSB with the 5:4 ratio will give you a memory speed of 200X2=DDR400 (which is what your RAM is technically rated at). I would think a reasonable goal would be 267 FSB or 3.2 gig.
 
Okay TC..... I selected 333 DDR with 250 FSB. It boot to 3.0GHZ but its not stable. It loaded Windows half way only.... sigh. I think my proceesor is lame one.

Here is my setup at 250 FSB:

P4 2.4C (800) SL6WF Malay
DDR 333 with SPD timing ( CL 2.5 ) with 2.85V

...... and here from Asus monitor's probe:
Vcore: 1.680 (I select 1.600V in Bios)
CPU Temp: 25C (idle) - 37C (max)
Mobo Temp: 30C (idle) - 35C (max)

With the above setup, should I increase more Vcore?

At present, I switched back to 245 FSB with 400 DDR setting (1:1) and it still running fine. I'm impressed with my Samsung PC 3200 doing 490 MHz !!!! @ 2.85V CL3 ... what a situation, I have lame processor with great memory.

It's really hard to say if the cpu is topped out or not without first-rate ram. The 5:4 mode is a lot harder on the ram than 1:1. Try running 1 stick of ram and see if the cpu will tolerate any more fsb. Most cases I see like this end up with the realization that the cpu is a lot more talented than originally thought once teemed with proper BH5 memory. The last guy I helped thought 266fsb was all that was stable with his 2.4c, but when he got a couple of good BH5 modules lo and behold it runs fine at 300fsb.

Your temps look good, I have a P4P800 as well and there is a huge droop between idle voltage and loaded voltage. It won't hurt to try more voltage, 1.75 in bios to try to boot at 250 fsb. I see you have dropped your memory timings already. Its either try different memory, up the voltage or live w/ what you got.

Too much vcore can case stability issues that can appear to be from too little vcore. I can hit above 300 fsb w/ vcore at 1.6 in bios. With your settings "maxed" are you passing memtest86 clean? I tend to think it may be a ram issue not processor.
