Ok, I just discovered something that will be of great value to anyone who has an A7N8X and uses the provided ASUS Probe software for hardware monitoring. The temperature monitor in Probe that *says* CPU is not, I repeat NOT, the CPU diode. It is actually the socket temp. Probe does not have any location for reading the diode.

I discovered this last night when I installed MBM5. I was just messing around installing MBM for no particular reason when I noticed that the CPU Diode temp reported by MBM was higher than the CPU temp being reported by Probe. Fortunately, the A7N8X socket diode must be really, really close to the CPU, because the temperature difference only runs about 5 degrees. Whew. It just kind of ****es me off because Probe says "CPU Temperature", which lead me to think that it was the diode temp, not the socket. The "Motherboard Temperature" is just the case temperature.

Thank god I was conservative when testing my CPU. I ran it up to 50 C according to probe with some Prime95 testing @ 1.8v, but that means it was really 55 C or so. This is higher than I'd like to run my processor as I want to save it's life span.

Just figured I'd give the heads up for anyone else out there who is relying on ASUS Probe for their temp readings

MBM5 is much better the asus probe IMO.
You bet your sweet overclocking hiney it is :)

I sent ASUS an email filling them in on my displeasure in finding out that Probe reports what it *says* is the CPU temp, when it's really the socket temp. Do they think that end-users care about CPU temp... no. It's there for overclockers, so why not give them the info they need?

ummm duh? :-/ i think this has been discussed many times before...but thanks for the refresh :)

I did a search, but didn't find anything mentioning it... well... now that I went back and did another search, it's mentioned, but not directly :) Figured this would be a 'public service' thread for all the A7N8X owners ;)

Very good to know. I was wandering why my mobo temps were running within 3c of my cpu temps on probe with my spire hsf, and it never went above 40c on the cpu under load with that. I installed a TT polo735 (just a volcano12 with extra brackets for p4's and 64s) Guess I'll load mbm now.
