So my im going for a high end overclock and my system was unstable so i decided to reinstall my os and i noticed that my hard drive is not set to superspeed in bios settings (it was detecting my hard drive before i clicked superspeed) as soon as i hit superspeed it stopped detecting my hard drive at all, i tried changing sata ports on the mobo, formatting the hard drive completely changing it back to normal mode, loading all default settings on the mobo, i reinstalled my os on the sata 3gb/s port on the mobo but i still want to maximize my hard drive speed so i would like to get my sata 6gb/s ports working again, preferably at superspeed or at least on normal, does anyone know how to fix this issue?
i have a seagate barracuda 7200.12 1TB 6gb/s rated speed.

Erm. A conventional HDD like your Seagate 1TB cannot actually utilize the full bandwidth available in Sata 3 6 GB/s. So getting the 6GB/s port working for your drive is completely pointless. It just won't use it. Only SSD's utilize it.

i know that, but i don't know whats wrong with it, i like having everything working i don't just break something then leave it, it was working before now its not, thats the problem :/ if i ever get an ssd then it might not work and i don't like having faulty hardware.

Sorry I got the impression you were trying to utilize 6 GB/s fully with a conventional HDD...

As far as your issue goes.. I'm not entirely sure what the issue is. Do you have a spare HDD lying around you can use as a tester?

So since setting everything back to normal in your bios and loading defaults; it doesn't get detected at all on the 6 GB/s port? Sounds odd. Have you tried your other 6 GB/s port? Your motherboard has 2.

well i do but its not 6gb/s rated? i got a sata i think not even a sata 2..
and no and the speed didn't even change its still on normal mode, and yeah even tho i had to pretty much take everything out of my case because its so small ive plugged it into the second port and it doesnt detect it either..

1. Make note of where you had the working hard drive before you 'tried' superspeed.

2. Disconnect all hard drives.

3. Remove power to the power supply.

4. Clear the CmOs.

5. Reattach the hard drives exactly as they were before 'trying' superspeed.

6. Repower the power supply and boot to the bios and load optimized defaults or menu wording to that effect.

7. Boot out of bios and back to bios and see if the drive you had issue with is now again recognized as it was before "trying" superspeed. If it is still not recognized it would seem the drive has been harmed in some manner.

X58 Sabertooth has 6 SATA2 /Intel ports that are optimal for everything on this board and my advice will be to use them instead of Marvell/JMicron ports.
SATA3 ( 6Gb/s ) is only Marvell but sometimes there are problems with this controller. For example I won't advice to use any DVDRW drive on these ports because CD/DVD write will fail.
If clearing cmos won't help then try to turn off JMicron controller or Marvell. I noticed that there are compatibility issues when all controllers are enabled. Don't know why maybe it's BIOS problem. My brother has the same controller configuration in ASUS R3E and he is unable to boot into Windows when all controllers are enabled or when he is using Revodrive with Marvell or JMicron enabled.

Those piggybacked controllers are seriously garbage. Pretty sure it's the same generation of controller as was on the R3F, which was a MacGuivered SAS controller on a 1xPCIE2.0 link for a fantastic 5gbps actual throughput.

what is cmos and how do i clear it? ive already tried turning the power off and connecting it to a different port i dont know what clearing cmos is or what it does tho.

Eryklok. I suggest going through your motherboard manual and reading it.

You've got another thread asking about overclocking; but you don't even know how to clear CMOS; or even what it is.. Read around on the forums; there are plenty of guides around for overclocking; and your motherboard manual should help with understanding your SATA ports and setup of such...
