Well i bought a retail amd processor put it in and am suprised to find its unlocked. What multiplier should i go? normaly its 13x133 = 1733 now its 13x140=1820

Well your FSB changed...133 to 140 Your multiplier is still the same 13....But if it did come unlocked then go for as high as you can possibly get it. Good luck.

Yeah, the 13 there is your multiplier and the 133 is the FSB. Dosn't need to be unlocked to change the FSB.

if you find your procesor unlocked try too lower the multlipier and raise the fsb as high that you can :)

Is it really unlocked?...or is it that you can change your FSB...if you cant change the multiplier off of 13, then its not unlocked, Unfortunatly I have seen quite a few posts where people thought there CPU's were unlocked, and there really not. It sure would be nice to get an XP unlocked directly from the factory though :D

Try increasing FSB as high it will go. If you run into trouble reduce the multiplier.

Try 13x150 for 1950MHz. If that fails try 12x150 for 1800MHz.

i bought a 1.4 athlon a while ago and as far as i could see it wasn't unlocked. When i went to turn up the fsb i was able to choose custom config in the bios and i was able to change both the fsb and the multiplier. If it isn't unlocked can u till change the mult or is it physically impossible. I bought it retail so it wouldn't be unlocked. My chip burned out about a month ago and am about to buy an xp1800 with an Epox 8k3a kt333 board. Am i allowed to change the mult if its not unlocked? I don't wanna burn out another chip.

Retail or OEM has nothing to do if a CPU is locked or not. most T-Birds are unlocked and you are able to change the multi. XP's are locked and you cannot change the multi.

any chance of a L1 pic or two?

And what is left on one of my XP1600's.

I would have put the core in the pic but it is not there anymore.

I think you guys misunderstood me my multiplier is unlocked not just my fsb. Right now i havent touched it andf the sys gets POST error if i raise multiplier but i can lower it. For example: I can do 13x140 = 1820 and i can also do 12x152=1824. Im not sure what i should change my fsb to. At 141 its stable, 142 windows crash, 145 wont boot, 150 no post all this with 13x multiplier, but i have amd retail hsf i have ordered an Ax-7 which should let me go higher. BTW my chip is not green like other 2100+'s it is brown, and it is a 2100 cause it says so on core. In bios my muliplier is free form 5x to 20x. Ive tried 13.5 or 14 but it doesnt post. Below 13 works though.

What does it say at 12.5X 133FSB and 13X at 133FSB? My guess it the bios on the board is the culprit not the XP. Also if you look at the top of the XP and see the L1's cut it is locked.

without touching the chip at all its says 13x133 = 1733mhz. Now i can run the chip at 12.5x133 12x133 or even 11.5x133 fine, but raising to 13.5x133 wont work, although the chip will handle fsb's that will take past what 13.5x133 would take it. I just set it back to 13x normal muliplier righjt now and 141fsb. So now im at 1833 mhz. But once again the fact that my chip is brown may mean its different from the 2100's that are all green. Also i havent checked my l1 bridges when i put on my ax-7 i wil look and see what its at. But my multiplier is unlocked for sure because i can move it and set it. Its not a bug in bios because 12.5x133 will say 1663mhz both in windows and bios. I guess i must be very lucky for it to be unlocked :). Quick question when i get my ax-7 do you think 13x150 is attainable?

Yes, you may have to raise the voltages though. Next time you take the cooler off look at the L1's and see if the are bridged or not. Would be hella cool if they started unlocking them!!!

Just cause the bios lets you change the multi DOES NOT MEAN IT IS CHANGED! You can change the multi settings in the bios on any locked chip but that does not mean that it really is changed. Do you KNOW that when you set it to 12.5 it is actually running at 12.5 like with Sandra of WPUCID or the like?
