Performance / Price

Unoverclocked; Both at stock; Which would be the best for the price now? The 9600 Pro is about $20USD cheaper (It's $30 CDN cheaper)

For $20 bucks, is it beneficial to get the 9500 Pro over the 9600 Pro. (Again, do not mention the overclocking capabilities)

So you that replied think that the performance difference between the 9500 Pro and 9600 Pro deserves and extra $20USD?

I would say go for it. Not many ppl have this card and this way you could tell us about the card itself. I have this card and I like it. The only thing that I don't like about it is that the PCB is green, which makes this thing look like a 8500, but trust me, it is far from it.

Go with the 9600Pro. IHMO

Would love to play with one but alas the finances will not allow. I would love to see how high you can push it and I'll give the $123 9500np (fingers crossed) from newegg a shot.

The thing you haven't asked is:

Do you want high performance, and lower MHz numbers, or,
Do you want lower performance, but high MHz numbers and much less heat?

If the former, go for the 9500. If the latter, go for the 9600. The 9500 will outperform the 9600 even when teh 9600 is overclocked to sky-high levels. The 9600, however, has a core built with .13-micron technology and the 9500 is .15-micron. The 9500 will heat up quite significantly, while the 9600 will run rather cool.

Personally, I'd go with the 9500, but it will require good cooling.

The cooling on the 9500 and 9700 cards is actually very effective. Ive got mine overclocked to 350 on the core with stock cooling, so stock cooling will be plenty for stock.

I want one that plays games better per dollar than the other one. I don't care about all that hardware jargon. :p What is this a tech forum? :D

Yes, I was really surprised on the cooling. I removed the shim and changed the fan out but retained the heat sink. This was good enough to cool it to 438/600 with a slight vmod. Now, if only I had not pushed for more with even a higher vmod then I would not be waiting on the arrival of another 9500...I shall hard mod this one as well but hold the resistor to 2.2k and work with it.

Use the following equation to evaulate the card... *made by me*
[(x/p)+(z/p)+(y/p)]/3
X=3dmark01
Y=UT2003 (highest setting)
Z=3dmark03
P=Price on newegg

9500 Pro
[ (12569/181)+(47.3/181)+(3540/181) ]/3
29.75 Performance per price????

9600 Pro
[ (11512/185)+(39.2/181)+(3252/185) ]/3
26.67....

:eh?: :eh?: :eh?: the 9800pro got 17.28

Anyway, i'll prolly fail algebra.... but you can use that equation to compare cards... i suppose.... easiest way is to use the Powertoy calc from microsoft.

Hey Zim,

From what benchmarks did you get those numbers from?

I, too, am debating on which of these to get...I need some answers quick because I will need choice within the next week! :confused:

AHHHHHHHHHHH! I need help!

Have never run UT and with a modem did not have access (till rescently) to 2003 however the $150 9500np pulled 18,700 2001 points oc'ed. Too bad that can't be extrapolated. I suspect that oc'ed the 9500 compares favorably to the 9800 oc'ed.
