i think they like to do stuff like that to just get more attention. a good example of this is when bad news is announced for a company. the stock drops down. but then another group comes along and announces the exact same thing and the company's stock drops again. ati is just trying to make it work the opposite way, it appears.

Gee, is that what a press release is for?

It is quite newsworthy, as they are the only graphics company to have a working board w/ the next step in DRAM technology. Interesting to note as well:
DDR-2 is the technological foundation for the eagerly anticipated third-generation DRAM for graphics (GDDR3) due out next year, an industry-wide initiative led by ATI.
It seems ATI has their ducks lined up in a row, for the time being, anyway.

This is cool! ATI is moving the graphics industry right along! Way to go ATI! I wonder if Nvidia can keep up...
