ATi posts a 500% jump in Q1 profit

For those who didnt see the article yesterday here it is. Thats one hell of a jump in profit in only one year, no matter who you are.

Doesn't suprise me since the demand for 9600 Pro chips were so big at one point they were only distributing them periodically in order to keep prices high.

I want to see how much Nvidia have gained :p

EDIT:

One other this might look good is that they might boost up the research...because now they have even more money to flash around...

Thats quite a conspiracy theory there. What resellers sell them for is their own business, and ATi gets none of that profit.

That's quite amazing. But I'd like to cynically point out that Intel with its incredible Extreme Graphics chipset is still making mince meat out of the two... :D In the relatively small amount of market share from enthusiasts(that means anyone from your teenage surbanite Dell owner to people like us) ATi is making huge strides. Refreshing to watch; I just hope they don't end up going the same way nVidia has.

No its fact. There were times when I was unable to get the 9600 PROs b/c certain manufacutrers were only allowing a certain amount into the market. The manufacturers were doing it b/c ATI was doing the same to them.

Yes, I hope they dont go the way ANY past video card maker has.

I dont think they will. ATi has their hands in a lot more then any past video card maker has, and the fact that they have succeded very well in all those areas (and not to mention they have a very interactive role with entusiests) makes it look that they have a very good future ahead of them.

And is there any proof of this?

How about the fact that I am a reseller and I could not get 9600 PROs from Sapphire, ATI or Powercolor at a few times in the past months b/c they were ALL witholding the amount they put into the market.

If you do not want to beleive me then don't. I am not here to argue but I know from experience and not hearsay.

IMO it is good selling strategy b/c ATI knew how popular the 9600 series chipsets were and that is exactly why the prices are still the same. I am not paying any less for them now than I was 4 months ago so if you are hearing people say "its the resellers keeping the prices up" then that is just garbage and they need to get their facts straight before making comments.

I'm one of the many converts :D

The old Ti chipset is still great for the old games, but for new DX9, the Radeons are king. I changed from an Albatron Ti4680 Turbo, and got about the same score I am with my 9700AIW in 3DMark2001 (15K), but I'm getting 3500 points more in 2003 than the 4680 (5000 vs 1500). I was happy with my 4680, but nVidia did such a horrible job with the FX line, ATi got a new convert.

And on the internet, I'm a 21 year old woman w/ a 36c cup size

Hard evidence is required here.
