is atiTool's "find max overclock" feature reliable? It shows artifacts much ealier in my overclock than wat 3dmark was able to take before it shows artifacts.
I've noticed the same thing. A lot of people don't use it because supposibly if you leave it running it will fry you card... If you get through 3dmark and can't see any NOTICABLE artifacts, ignore Ati tool. But if you can play a game of checkers or build a snowman, then back off the clocks.
I would believe what ATItool says. Just because you don't see it in 3dmark doesn't mean it's not there. ATItool catches the first errors, but your eyes won't until it's obvious.
Edit: If you want your card to last, believe ATItool. If you want speed and don't care if you buy a new card 6 months from now, uninstall ATItool and use your eyes
I just bought this 9800pro/xt, and I'm not gonna believe my eyes are that well tuned. I've got to make this one last a while
I don't think it's reliable.... some people have good success with it while others swear to never use it again..... I won't use it to fine overclockes but I'll use it for other things

other things? what else is it good for? with atiTool my core overclock is lower by 30 and my memory would drop BELOW!!! the default. Now that is rediculous.

I don't think its reliable because when i tried to overclock the rad 9000 Pro I have, it got way higher than the speed that I knew was the card's max stable overclock.
It reached something like 340core/330mem when max stable OC was 320core/310mem
