I have literally had it ! with my board.....its the greatest piece of human made s*** I've ever placed inside my computer case. Guys please don't be foolish like I was and buy an ABIT KT7a mobo because I have never tried to assembly a PC that had so many ffff problems. THE WORD freeze is so common to me that i have dreams about it.

Here's what happpen. I bought this board after since i wanted to oc my 1.1 gig processor. When I installed all components it frost s many bloody times. I uninstalled and reformatted my hd like so many people with these boards do and just installed the minimal of hardware ie my g-force card and it too stalled or freezed. I then tweaked my bios, loaded different drivers, cards, chip drivers etc even changed F****** power supply to 400watt nothing seem to agree with this fff board. So I then read around the forums and decided to flash the bios with the ZT bios update from abit. However following their instructiions to the letter to cut a long story short the flash did not take and when i power up i get a black screen.
ie the bios chip is F*****.

I'm now e-mailing you guysd from an internet cafe as my own pc is very ill. However I'll sent the board back and I'll buy myself a new IWill mobo for my sorrows...

Please don't make say mistake....

Systems spec will be coming soon........

Tell me your worst nightmares.....

I have had my KT7A-Raid for a while now and have never had a problem, I think this is one of the greatest boards made. Rock solid, and really fast, i'm sorry to hear that you had such probs on your board, I lost an FIC AZ11E to a bad bios flash. Hope the IWILL works better for ya.

I've read a lot about that abit k7a board. Maybe he got a bad board or something. It can happen.

From what I've read, that mobo is excellent. Could be cheap ram or something like that causing the problem.

Insane clown posse?

I like the makeup. ;)

I'm starting to wonder if there was a bum batch of KT7A/R boards??? I just bought a KT7A-Raid and I have not had a single problem. I'm running the same BIOS that came w/ the board..no updates..except for the VIA drivers. It's happily crankin' my 750 Duron up to 1000.

What is happening to all these people w/ KT7A boards? I know SBLive was a main concern...I avoided that route and bought a Hercules Muse XL soundcard instead...haven't had a problem. No card's in the 5th PCI slot...Have you checked that?

Did you initially set the board to "optimized defaults" in the BIOS and it still froze?

I have to agree with Fiz,i'v had my KT7A-raid since Jan. and have 0 problem's. good luck with your next board.

I've had no problems with my KT7A, just flashed the bios yesterday with no problem.

Hey sfa ok just wanted to complement you on your sweet pick. Ibis is one of my favorite bike companies. If only I could afford one of those $300 polished titanium stems.

The board is a dynamite piece from what I hear, but the chip is not the best. I have heard many bad things about the 1.1ghz. Like you would be very lucky to get it to post, let alone O/C. RMA and get a 1gigger.

It's not the board it is the chipset. Whoever said that this board is "dynamite" is right. Like all other VIA based boards it will blow up on you at random times. I am never going to consider buying another VIA based board unless they seriously get their act together and release something that actually resembles a working product.

Of course some VIA boards work SORT OF ok. The thing is about 10% are just totally bad and plagued with major stability problems. I got one of these "bad" boards myself...two identical systems and one was plagued with major problems while the other worked fine...swapped the boards and the problems were gone... After that experience I have no more faith in VIA boards at all...

If anybody has ever been to Fry's Electronics ....you know they have about 25 -30 boards on display that you can actually pick up and handle. Occasionally they will sell these "demo" boards for silly low prices. I picked up a KT7R (not the 133A chipset version) for 50 bucks. It came with a manual, no box or anti-static bag or CD. battery was popped out, missing shunts, etc..but it ran! and ran good. Its still beats away in my buddy's system. Can you guess how many people put their monkey funk on it? Like just rub it on the carpet why dont you.

I have had the ABIT KT7A from when thay first came out,Not a problem related to motherboard ever.As a matter of fact I consider the Abit the best line of boards for the AMD line up.

Abit KT7A
1.2 AXIA at 150x9
512 megs Micron pc 150 cas 2 Ram
30 GIG Maxtor 7200,RPM,, DMA 100
Matrox G400 Max Dual head.
Sound Blaster Live
Realtech nic card
12x8x32 CDRW
50x CDROM
400 watt P/S

My current problems,

1) I have fixed the sblive irq problem
2) The system locks up haphazardly, but mostly during I/O ,and file transfers. This is my main problem.
3) My CPU's temp goes up to 60 + during processing, im using a super orb heatsink(dual fan), I dont think my system lock ups are temp dependent, cos it locks up even at low temp and i think the bios has an auto shut down in an event of an overheat
4) im using a 250 W psu, some say this is not enough, but i read ppl with similar problems as me, they added a 400 W psu but still experienced the same problems
5) CPU voltage set at 1.85 cos anything below that locks up the machine...any ideas why?

System configuration
ABit kt7A

30 GB Seagate UDMA ATA-100

I have that problem with a MSI Mobo which I got off ebay. It was screwed with by gateway and I guess it didn't make the cut and well I got it. I was able to post once. ONCE! Those MOFOs at gateway wouldnt know a motherboard af it bit them in the A$&!!!!!!
I'm buying retail when it comes to mobos from now on!

wow man it sounds like de'cha vu
i have done exaclty the same with mine, and returned the mobo for a raid version, still the same. but my bios update worked fine ,just didnt stop the freezing, last thing for me is the power supply but is a 300 watt psu usually enough for a system like mine?[BELOW lol!]i have in my mind to go for the iwill too,but i wanna try another cpu b4 i do that, why dont any of you dudes live in australia man!

My first KT7A had lots of stability problems. I figured this out after replacing about 2/3 of my other hardware. Luckily, I figured it out before 30 days had passed and returned it to NewEgg under their 30 day satisfaction guarantee. Being a trusting soul, I had them send me another one. It was from a different manufacturing run and has worked great since i took it out of the box.

Moral of this story

For every great product out there, there will be a certain percentage of "Lemons". The more complex the product, the greater the opportunity for failure. Motherboards are a complex product.

Nagorak is right though. Blame VIA, not Abit.

Sorry to hear you have problems too. I can safely say that my mobo is in ABIT's hands at the moment and I've decided to buy an IWill mobo. I bought the board a few days again the IwillKK266-Raid. This board is super stable and I have no problems with the board at all. I'll soon get the Abit KT7a board back from ABIT and I'll sale it too some unfornunate fool. Anyway how if your considering to buy an IWill please NOTE the followingIWILL KK266 boards do not like the original G-Force 256 graphics cards. They cause a long reboot delay. However if you have a g-force 2 your ok! Refer to forums on amdmb.com for further info.My system spec is....

Amd Athlon 200FSB 1.1gig (not oclocked)
20gig 7200rpm Maxtor HD
IWill KK266-RAId mobo
ELSA G-Force 2 ULTRA
SB Live 5.1
DXR3 Decoder card
256 Crucial PC133 Cas2
