what are the major difference, I have z-680's and an audigy 1. I am actually using the optical output on my nforce board now instead of the audigy. My question is this. I have 5.1 dolby digital feed at all times with my nforce board, never have to switch anything and get good sound from everything. it passes through dts encoded digital for movies and such, and it will produce 5.1 from any audio. I know that the audigy was a hassle and didn't do as good of a job with the 5.1 all the time. The audigy doesn't encode dolby digital, just passes it through.
Do the newer cards really justify the upgrade, I am very happy with my sound, but I am going to do some tivo type work with the pc and would like a fibre input for sound. I don't have that option with my onboard, and I was wondering other than that option what are some of the cool things that you get for buying the card. I saw today that call of duty had a special sound effects that are decoded by the audigy. is this true of newer stuff coming out or is it just marketing hype??
Relly jsut wanted to know why I should fork over the cash and if it is worth it for gaming, also do the new cards give 5.1 all the time through a fibre output???
