I have an Abit BE6-2 rev 1 and I am trying to get it to turn on at the same time each day so I can fold@home. The comp is in the bedroom and I leave too early to turn it on so I would like to have it switch on automatically from being powered down.

According to the manual I should be able to do this in the Power Management Setup Menu of the bios, it can use the RTC alarm to trigger a start-up from the power off mode, but try as I may I can not get it to wake up. I leave the power applied but nothing happens, yet when I use the hot-key function it starts up just fine.

For those that have the manual the relavent page is 3-31. I would really like to get it going so that I can fold more WU's. Any help would be greatly appreciated. :)

are you sure you even want to turn it off? A few of us talked about that here a couple weeks ago.

none the less I'm not familiar with that specific board but on top of setting the time you must enable power management. Setting the time would be like telling it what time to wake up IF power management were enabled.

Sorry I can't be more specific, as I said I'm not familiar with your board.

Unfortunately the comp is in the bedroom and I have to turn it off at night - the missus you know ! I've tried all the combinations I can think of, including ACPI enabled. I set the day to 0 which should make it turn on at the same time each day. I've thought about trying to do a wake on ring through the modem, that way I could call it from work but it's hooked up through USB so I'm not sure if it will work either.

have a look in your bios for a setting along the lines of "power on after power fail" I have a qdi 440bx board with this option under integrated peripherals settings and this powere the computer up when the wall socket is turned on, you could then get a timer for the wall socket and have it set to activate the socket at a certain time which would then power the computer up

You could try setting it up for a wake up call..enable wake by modem ring, and that might be what you need, just phone your comp, and tell it to wake up...well, you get the idea, you will have to enable the comp to answer the phone after so many rings...I never turn off my comps..unless to make hardware changes..you could have it go on standby, and wake by lan, modem, or any other global events

Here's the best idea yet......if it's really too noisy to leave on all night and would keep you awake......

Take it to your mother in laws (or soon to be) house and keep it in her bedroom.....pick it up after work and bring it back home. That way you could still crunch at night......kill a few zzzzzz's from someone nobody likes, and bond the relationship the way it should be. Of course moving the computer to the livingroom would be easier.....but not nearly as fun. PLUS.... keeping it at the mother in laws house, she'll be sleepless during the night hours, and sleeping during the day ones. So you won't have to worry about her pestering you to come to dinner that often. http://forums2.overclockers.ws/forums/Public/Images/Default/E9.gif]

Shadow, that's the best idea I've heard so far, I'll just have to put another four fans in the case and up their voltages to say 17v and it should be just right. ???

I got it to turn on the other night automatically, now I just have to set up the correct schedules and it may work. Thanks for all the suggestions.
