I got a new thermalright slk 948 and I cannot get the backplate off, I am afraid of breaking the motherboard. Do any of you know how to get it off?

You might now want to hear this but you can put it into a freezer INSIDE a ziplock bag for about 15 minutes. That should freeze the glue and make it easier to remove.

I accept no responsibility for things that go wrong. Just repeating what I have read elsewhere.

Thanks for the tip, but I found my own solution

I finally figured out reading some other posts that I could heat the backplate to soften the glue and then pry it off with a plastic card. When done carefully it is quite easy. Just don't try and heat it and pry the plate at the same time, you will melt the plastic card, as I almost did.

My new heatsink works quite well. :D
