OK I've been running VMW player 3.0 and been averaging 5kPPD.

Now I have this A1 core WU running over one hour per step and only using a fraction of the CPU's 4 core power. Is this a bad WU or just what's left at the bottom of Stanford's work server barrel?

Server.56 has been on the fritz, hence the A1 WUs hitting the Linux folders.

There's nothing wrong with your performance on p5102 though. I've done one, on a q9450 @ 3.4, XP/VM Player 4 core/Linux SMP, running 2 x 8800GTS (G92) and here's the benchmark:

Name: Val2 VM1
Path: \\Val2-vm1\fah2\
Number of Frames Observed: 99

Min. Time / Frame : 00:29:50 - 1,612 PPD
Avg. Time / Frame : 00:30:20 - 1,586 PPD

As it is running in VMware, if you don't have tools installed and your clock isn't right, your frame times aren't right either.

I've got VMtools installed and clock is synced with my workstation. GMT -8

I guess I'll start anther 4 cpu VM and start another WU. If I get another A1, at least I'll be getting double the PPD of this one instance. If I pick up an A2, the A1 shouldn't slow it down too much.

Once the work server situation gets fixed, I'll -oneunit the secondary VM and take it back off line.

My C2Q is my only SMP_FAH machine. I don't bother with the two C2D machines anymore and just use them to support the GPU2/gaming 9600GSO cards.

Augie's frame times look a little fast, which was one reason I mentioned the VM clock. I'd guess .56 will come back on line tomorrow. Based on what my 2 x GTX260 do to frame times on a2 WUs, I'm thinking an a1 WU will really slow them dowm. The a2s with v 2.10 want it all or they go slow.

Well I got an A2 on my 2nd VM. When the A1s go away on my primary VM, then I'll close out the 2nd VM.

I don't know if this is an ongoing server issue at Stanford or just a short term problem (this weekend), but I'm not going to let less than 99% of my C2Q be utilized for SMP_FAH.

I don't dump low value WUs but I'm not going to just let a single A1's PPD tie up my only SMP_FAH processor either.

Being an FAH donor is far from being free. It cost a substantial amount to keep up with the ever changing hardware demands and the power bill is at least $100 higher per month. I know I'm preaching to the choir here but I thought I'd restate it anyway.

What can I say, Tools were installed automatically with Player 3 RC and the times look correct according to system time running 9.10 KK. Anyways, 'just' 29 frames to go so should be finished late today. BTW, this was always the speed I got when the A1's were prevalent so nothing new here.

Augie,
Yours are the correct times. I found the VM my times came from was suspended by my wife yesterday. It was a workstation install with an expired license, so it wouldn't start with 4 cores when I tried this morning. I installed Player 3.0 and it immediately wanted to install tools. So it was MY machine that didn't have tools on it and thus didn't have an accurate clock. One of the problems with having too many rigs is you can't remember what's been done, or not done, to them. I was flat wrong and I apologize for saying you might be.
One thing I've found is the Player clock can go completely wonkers without tools. If you open two of them, it gets even worse. Frame times on a VM without a clock in sync with the system clock can be meaningless, as mine are.
