I just decided that I could not wait for my custom w/cing case to be done so I installed my new barton and am just using air. Well I have already hit a wall. The multy is locked and I dont think I will be able to do much more with the fsb. Well not as much as I would like. I can post to bios up to 235 fsb. The temps are keeping me from going into windows.water will help but not as much as an unlocked multy. On to my question, if I cant change it in hte bios now, can I unlock it like my 1800+ or am I stuck at 11x?

There is no way for unlocking a LOCKED barton 2500+. The 1800+ Tbred comes factory unlocked and there have been reports of them coming locked (week 39 onwards). The 1800+ palomino can be unlocked manually (connecting all L1 bridges).

I suggest you can try upping fsb more by getting new ram and cooling(like you mentioned) which are limiting you from achieving higher fsb speeds.

"L1 and L3 bridges are closed on both locked and unlocked Bartons. However, on the locked Bartons, they do not connect to the core points which lead to the Internal Multiplier Control.

No motherboard can unlock these Bartons and there is nothing that can be done to bridges or pins that can change the locked Barton multiplier because they are not connected to the circuitry."

thank you for the fast response. (even though it is bad news) Any of you think there is a chance of hitting 270ish fsb? How far have you seen the fsb pushed on my board?

It's very doubtful that you will be able to hit around 270 fsb hehe, I've never seen anyone do it myself... With good cooling and ram( w/ winbond bh5) you should hit pretty high speeds...

Omg your overclock on that barton is awesome. I'd be very satisfied with 2,350 mhz. But yah, when you get water, I'm sure youll get a little more outta that chip, then hit the wall.:D
Good Luck to ya.

well I hope to get to atleast 2.8ish with this chip. I was running my 1800+ @2.4 before it started crapping on me and forced me back to stock speeds. 2.8 would put me at 254 fsb. I would think that is a reasonable expectation on water.

2.8??? reasonable??? rofl are you nuts man? we are talking about amd chips here, not p4s. I think maybe 5% of the people here have a 2500+ barton at 2.8, and they have prometias. I wouldnt count on 2.8...prolly 2.5

it is my goal. I always expect to hit my goal. If water alone will not work then on to bigger and better things. :)

I will run out of sync for the time being. I have some pc3200 around here some where *shuffles around in drawer* but I have to 1:find it, and 2:deal with the fact that it is only half the capacity of my current mem. :(

i had an unlocked barton, but fried it and got a replacement barton (locked) though and some water cooling to deal with that excessive heat, but in australia at the moment on ebay there are some pre week 39 chips, im picking mine up this arvo, do a little multipling, its an older week so it should be a good one im hoping
