Borrowing a X-700 and using a crap crt if that matters.

Random times, ill get 2 beeps from inside the comp. They sound like a bug sounding buzz with a beep undertone. beep beep. They happen every once in awhile, hours inbetween. And sometimes there will be half a beep when I turn the power off. I say half cause its like its getting cut off and barely makes a sound. Any clue? I'm confused ><

I'm assuming you're talking about a POST beep.

2 beeps is usually a memory error, try reseating the memory or take it it out. Alternitavely, this could be the video card, some have speakers on them and that would explain the mini beep. Does anything com onscreen?

EDIT: Just a theory, but I think it's the video card not getting enough power.

Sorry, I should have been more specific ><. I checked the Vid card, no speaker. The beeps don't happen at post, its just randomly while I'm using or even not using the comp. What prompted me to post is it did it while I wasn't even touching anything, it had been idle for about 5 minutes I was looking off in space or something...

Coretemp was at 25 on both.

I was just thinking about it, and if a freaking X-700 isnt getting the power it needs from an 850W PSU I am going to feel mighty jipped.

The house I live in is pretty old tho, and none of the plugs have a ground. I have to use those old school adapters. So I suppose its a posibility that the power is an issue, maybe I should look into getting a psu tester or just a general volt-meter-thingie-majigger...

Yes, definately look into that - computers always need a ground, and if your house doesn't have any grounds...that could create problems.

850WPSU = no video card problems. It was an experience that baffled me once, just making sure.

I'm starting to think this is associated with the other problem I'm having. Well, I'm pretty much 99% sure now.

I just got a 24 in Dell from a guy here on the forums which confirmed this theory..

My comp monitor was turning off and on pretty much randomly. I thought It might be a dud monitor or the gpu. Both borrowing from a friend so I'm glad its looking like its not them. But I plugged in an old crt and took the 19in lcd I was borrowing (returned today) off but left it pluged in. The crt worked fine, but then out of nowhere the lcd turned on, then off, then on???!??!?! (remember it has no input connected)

So I'm pretty sure its something to do with the power, and I'm hoping it explains the beeps to.

I suppose my question now would be:

1. How do you make a ground, I realize you have to take the socket out, replace with a new one, but what to connect the ground to, how hard would it be to find a pipe or what not in worse case (its just a wall between my room and hallway so doubtful theres anything near..

2. If its not an issue of a ground, would a UPS work? (This is on the assumption that theres crap on the line, and the surges / spikes / superimposed mabobber-junk is the problem) I realize a UPS would consume far more power and would be worse in the case that I'm just drawing to much...

3. Is my PSU just to beefy? I plan on going to a GTX / Sli GTS very soon, just the last component to get on my comp....

4. Should I just fck it and devote my energy to moving out lol.

---someone just explained how to make a ground while writing this out of those adapter thingies, going to try that when I get home.

1) Not an electrician, sorry.
2) I don't think this is a power issue
3) No, that is a rating, not what it puts out all the time
4) ...no

This sounds like your video card may be having problems. You NEED to find out what is making that noise, even if you have to sit there for 2 hours with your ear in your computer. That will tell you exactly where the problem is.

So you don't think the beeps are from the mobo saying its angry because power?

I'm not understand Thideras, how could it be a vid card issue when the monitor was doing it when not even connected, the vga was just hanging on the comp desk when I tested the Crt with it.
