No he's never been in the forums. I've tried to contact him via the email address he signed up with, but he has never responded. There's something odd about him, especially his continuous string of 10-30 minute work unit times.

those times look strange also
the fastest units ive seen that have been legit were just under an hour on the latest Alpha cpu's
i find it hard to se people gettthing those kind ot times without a hacked client

Yea.. Sounds fishy Hallen.

The last we heard from Berkeley Eric Korpela said he was too busy with their bandwidth problems to take a look at Benz's account. Looks like we have yet another person to invesitgate. There isn't any available processor capable of 30 minute work units. The latest Alphas average about 58 minutes. The 800MHz Itanium takes about 1:05 average. 30 minutes or less - forget it.

If everyone is so sure that he's patched, why not dump him off the team? I'd much rather be at the bottom with integrity, than at the top by cheating.

Of course, we don't KNOW he's patched. I'd love to have all the short times myself, though.

Yeah... Having Benz's speed would be great! But I doubt (though sincererly hope) that he isn't using some kind of patched version or some way of making his client run faster.

Of course... His compuer could be an unattended cruncher and have some kind of FPU instability. Like when I play a MIDI (instantanious spike with a power of about 1 million). But that really dosen't explain how he dosen't notice how fast the WUs are crunching....

Only semi-legit way I can see him doing WU's much faster than normal, is having some program check the WU's as they come in, and just "dump" any/all of the lower angle work units.
Keep the higher angle WU's, or even just a certain range of angles on the WU's.
That would cut his time down somewhat, but not into the 30 minute total range.
Let alone average that for ALL the WU's hes done.

JigPu- There is some discussion here on Seti Forums about low wu's. Not many posts but maybe it is a place to get some answers.

I also came across the post about oveclocking Seti:

So while were talking about the purity of clients maybe checking purity of systems is called for.

Hot CPU looks good. Long too, looks like 6 hours to check your O/C.

I'm going to try it tonight.

I have never tried, nor will I ever cheat, but theoretically you could copy your finished seti wu's, edit the times w/word and keep a seperate file of completed, edited wu's for retransmission. It sure would be a waste of time and bandwidth, but you could easily set yourself up as top cruncher in a fraction of the actual time. I'm sure in time you would get busted but setting yourself up for an audit by editing your wu times to an unrealistic number would be pretty stupid.

Maybe benz is an engineer for AMD or Intell or found a speed hack. But if he is legit, he should share the wealth of his knowledge for the benefit of the cause.

Race: I highly doubt there are any AMD or Intel departments within Thailand. Also, if he did work with it, there is no way he can still get those times, unless as you mentioned with any sort of hack! I don't think he can keep up editting 300 WUs a day, that is unless he creates scripts or something, pretty unpredictable. Don't the mods have any kicking power?

benz had 560 WU's yesterday...now if thats legit thats definitely a sweet setup...but of course at 30mins per WU then that means he has 12 equivalent machines.

I suppose its also possible to take the quick running WU's that are loaded with spikes and keep on running the same WU's over and over again

My point is as such: If your seti cruncher can produce 10 wu's per day. That would be appx 10 min of editing per day. Copy and save the files. Next day you complete 10 wu's and edit them in 10 min copy the files and save. In 1 hundred days you would have saved 1000 completed wu's that could be retransmitted. If smart, you could bleed the completed wu's saved back into next transmission so as not to create an easily detectable pattern. An audit of the user account to check for duplicate or trips of a same wu name would be the only way to detect if benz was cheating in that manner.
