What would you guys recommend as the best DDR Board out there? I have an ABIT KT7A, and my friend has an Iwill, my 1ghz did 1.2 on mine, and 1.4 on his, so that kinda pissed me off, because we have the same setup besides the mobo. The Asus board did similiar things as the Abit, but seemed to do higher speeds if the jumpers on the board were set (but who likes jumpers?) So my question, is, the Iwill DDR board with the ALi chipset a taker? Or does the Asus DDR versions work better?

I have a ka-266-r Iwill ddr mobo

and have got my 1.2 up to 1460+ without a problem

the heat is holding me back right now so Im stuck at 1.2 again=[

very nice mobo I think and the ali chipset is supposed to be good for games

If you can hold out a month or two you might want to wait on the new SiS and nVidia chipsets. Early tests of the SiS chipset show it being faster than anything currently available.

The ALi is the slowest chipset right now, with the AMD 761 being the fastest (not counting Via's balky chip) and probably the best overall. If I was buying an AMD DDR board right now I'd buy the Gigabyte GA-7DXR--a really nice mobo. It's got excellent overclocking features, 3 DDR slots, very good performance/stability, IDE raid, and decent sound built-in. A bit pricey at around $180-200.

Are you talking about the ga-7vtx (kt266). Because i've heard good things about that board like being able to get a 166 fsb and run 33 pci.

Nope, I'm talking about the GA-7DXR, based on the AMD 761 chipset. It's pretty new--most places are just getting it in now, or in the next week or two.

Don't overlook the FIC AD11. I just put a system together on one and am pleased to this point. So far it seems to be at least the equal to the A7V133 for stability and performance.

I've had my 1.2-C T-BIRD to 1470MHz on it and a couple of DURON 600's over 1100MHz. These are equal to the best I've reached with the same CPU's on the ASUS A7V133.

Given some more time to tweak it, I would expect even better results given the DDR PC2100 RAM.

Frank.

I also have the FIC AD11. It served me well, but it is not very good at running higher than 133 FSB's. This leaves you with only the multiplier to use for ocing, which is not ideal. I am still comtemplating getting another mobo, but still waiting to see what ppl say of the new nvidia and Sis when they come out.

I'd have to agree fully with super7... yes the asus a7m266 right now is currently the best performing ddr motherbaord but not for long.. A fully overclockable Abit kg-7 raid is now out and can be found at pricewatch.com... price is around 190 bucks.. this is my choice right now as I have already ordered one, don't waste ur money on the asus motherbaord unless u don't intend on overclocking.. the asus motherboard lacks the cpu multiplier..

You guys are crazy to be spending $180-$190 on AMD 761 based motherboards! You can get the EPoX 8K7A motherboard for $130 and it has all of the overclocking options you need. The EPoX board is practically the same price as KT133a boards and other DDR boards cost half again what it does. I have the board and so far ;-) I am very impressed with its stability and quality. It also has a nifty BIOS flash function.

I think if you go with anything else, especially something waaaaaay more expensive you are making a HUGE mistake.

Yeah, I'm liking the Epox right now too.... the KG7 may change that, but I think i am going to wait until I see some SIS, nForce and KT266 Rev2 offerings. the KT266 rev2 boards should be hitting the reviewers soon, hopefully they'll come out better than the original KT266 boards. My faith lies mostly with VIA.... after KT133A, I know they're capable of very, very good things.

The KG7-R looks nice, but i was very disappointed with my KT7A Abit board.. my 1ghz 266fsb AXIA only did 1.2ghz stable w/ Alpha cooling... It did up to 1.4 on an Iwill KK266-R...

If the KG7-R doesn't have crazy problems like that... then I will probably go with that, because of RAID.

The KG7-R has problems as does the AMD 760 chipset it uses.. there are articles on the front of overclockers.com about these problems

Ok I think I've pretty much decided... unless I hear something pretty negative about the AsusA7M266...

I'll go with the AsusA7m266, 512 mb of Crucial PC-2100 DDR RAM, a Millenium Glaciator for CPU cooling, and a 1.33 ghz tbird... yeah.

Are there any similiar problems with the A7M that the Abit KG7 or my KT7A boards had w/ overclocking so low?

The only real downside to the A7M266 is the price and the fact that it doesn't allow for multiplier adjustments (although I've heard some reports that newer boards have the necessary dip switch installed).

For me the EpoX wasn't that much cheaper because I use the A7M's onboard audio, and I'd have had to buy a sound card if I went with the EpoX.

If I didn't have the patience of a five-year-old I'd have waited a month or two for the newer boards and chipsets.

7DXR! This is from my A7M266 - 7DXR - 8K7A review:

What do you know about a product which have not yet been released (KG7?) This is rumor milling. What is your source? Fact is, that the AMD 760 is as of today the best performing and most stable of all existing DDR chipsets, that doesn't mean it's perfect and 2morrow might come something better.
