All depends on which socket, dual core, single core, the application in which it will be used?

i am thinking AM2 is the best but not sure. i use it for apps such as photoshop, maya, 3d max, adobe/macromeda package mainly. not to sure which dual or single suit this best ! thanks

Hmm, I'd personally go with an Opteron for workstation apps like that.

Opteron 1218 OEM for $415 @ Monarch

Opteron 1216 OEM for $289 @ Monarch

DFI Infinity M2 Mobo, about £75
Opti 1214 (it'll oc to the level of a 1216 with no mad voltages). £165-185
GSkill 2x1G DDR800 (CL4 or CL5). About £165
450-500 Watt (FSP, OCX, Seasonic ).

This might run over £300 but some part you may have/substitute for now.
