I have a Vapochill LS on the way and I have about $150-$200 to spend on a motherboard and a CPU for overclocking. So basically, If you had 150-200 dollars to spend on a motherboard and a cpu, specificly for overclocking, what would you pick. I am fine with AMD or INTEL. Thanks

hi, i have just spent about 90 quid (£90 ~ $150ish) on a amd64 3700+ 2.2GHz and a ECS motherboard with a nVidia 250gb chipset (whatever that means)
BUT 2 weeks ago i bought a ABIT motherboard (purely because of the reputation for the name) it also had the 250gb nvidia chipset, so im guessing they are quite similar. i got this from www.ebuyer.com :)

if anyone can shed some light on the chipsets and different manufacturers of motherboards, it would be good..

Welcome to O/C Forums! :welcome:

If you want to oc on the cheap then my suggestions are a DFI Mobo:

Newegg linky I'd personally go with the Ultra-D, or the SLI-DR.

And either a Venice or San Diego Core. Both oc very nicely:

I'm sure you can get an awsome ocing combo for under $200 now since the main focus is on the C2D's so prices on AMD have dropped dramatically.

Enjoy :)

3700+ Sandy and DFI board if you have good parts to go with it. Asus A8N-E is more forgiving on the other parts, but your total OC will be slightly limited. For reference, I have an Opty 170 running at 2.95 on the Asus board:bday:

If you've put out the bucks for a Vapo, why scimp on your proc and mobo. Save up another month or 2 and get you a C2D system. Get you either an e6300 or e4300 (right at $190 presently) and get you a Biostar TForce965PT (around $105). You will have a system that will absolutely pwn anything AMD is presently making with this installed in your Vapo and the Biostar board has shown up very well in several reviews. I'm thinking of buying that Biostar board in a month or 2 myself.

Id also agree with muddocktor! Save up for better stuff! Having one gold part and the rest iron is just silly! XD

:welcome::welcome: A e6300 and a $50 Mobo that would be a little over $200. But at somepoint you could upgrade your Mobo. And the CPU would be good for a while.
