I am trying to fix a problem I have with my card and linux regarding resolutions and Arkaine suggested getting new drivers for it. The thing is that Im not sure which the best ones to use are or even really how to install them. After hearing from Arkaine and reading rage3d forum posts it looks like the FireGL drivers are the ones to go for but I am not sure exactly which FirGL driver I need. Has anyone here had any success with installing linux ATI drivers? Or even specifically for the 8500?

I think the FireGL drivers are about the only choice you have, the only one that I know of anyway, if you go to ATi's main drivers page they are listed there under the Linux section. I have had the FireGL drivers on my Gentoo install for some time I cant tell you how they perfom though as I havent tried gaming in Linux yet!

You may get a better response if you ask for this to be moved to the Alt OS section. ;)

If you have mandrake 9.2, I'd think that you have the newest version of X, version 4.3.

Its redhat 9.1 i have installed but I have mandrake 9.1 as well. The bit confusing me though is that there is a bunch of FireGL drivers for Linux on ATI site. Infact ill check again now and list them for ya.
Sorry no i wont there are loads lol. Is it the 8700 I should get? I assume that card used the same GPU as the 8500 series.
