Im looking for a mobo that supports DDR, Raid and is overclocker friendly. I have already tried the Iwill KA266-R and sent it back. I have also sent the ASUS A7A266 back. Both are very unstable mobos IMO. I have heard that the Abit KG7-raid is good, but I can't find it anywhere, is it new? I also heard that the Gigabyte is worth looking into. Can anybody help me? Or is this forum as useless as hardforum's?

I will be recieving my KG7 tomorrow, hopefully. My contact has one for me but I can't get enough time at lunch to go get it, booooo hisssss. The KG7 is so new it is backordered at most retailers already and they hit the shelves yesterday. I am going with ABIT and I think everyone should, very dependable, in most cases anyways. There is always a dud in the factory you just have to keep trying. Welcome to the forums and this place has helped me out more then I can say.

I heard the EPOX EP-8K7A+is good. But I went with the Iwill KK266-R and I am having probs' :(

It has the VIA chipset instead of the ALI like you now know has problems.

I've heard some good stuff about the KG7, but it is pretty expensive right now, around $190. I heard the chipset is much better then the one that came on the KT7A.

I understand that with the KG7, ABIT fixed most of the major instablilities and incompatibilities that the KT7A(R) motherboard had. So if that is the case, it should be a good motherboard.

I have built a couple systems with the KA-266-R and have had no problems...what were the problems you were experiencing?

What advantages does the KG7 offer over the Epox 8K7A other than 2 more memory sockets?

Have you tried www.pricewatch.com I think there is about 3 places that have them. It is going for around $200. + S&H.

And as far as this forum being useless. NO one makes you stay or leave. We all try to help if we can.

But if no one has the mobo how do expect them to give opinions?

Good Luck !!

Have a cup of coffee sit back and relax :)

i got the Gigabyte GA-7DXR and it's very OC friendly. dipswitches all over the place, lots of bios options. and it's been pretty stable so far, no complaints here. but it's kinda expensive, got mine for $175, but most places have them for $200. you already said you thought that was expensive, but like they always say, you get what you pay for, and i'm quite satisfied with what i paid for what i got.

I just got my Epox 8k7A from Newegg for $130 shipped. It only took 2 days to get to me. The 8k7a+ is $170 I believe.

The only major problem with the EPoX board is it has no attachment for a temperature probe. This is a minor annoyance...as motherboards go this is the best one I think I've ever owned. I've had absolutely no problems, which is pretty much unprecedented.

Past mobo history includes: Abit BH6, Abit BF6, Asus CUSL2, Asus A7V, Asus A7V133.

I suppose the CUSL2 would be a close second since I had very few problems with it either... Don't even get me started on the Abit 440BX boards and the Asus KT133/a boards.................

My 8K7A has 3 fan headers, one for the CPU fan and 2 others. Maybe you were just referring to the 2 others since CPU fan header is assumed used.

No you're right. I'm embarassed to say that I did not see the third chasis fan header down at the bottom. My mistake. I edited my post to remove that complaint. Thanks for setting me straight.

After due consideration, I decided on the GA-7DXR from Giga-Byte. It's gotten fabulous reviews, is very stable, has loads of options, high capacity for just about everything (1.4+ Ghz T-birds, 3Gb DDR RAM, 5 PCI, 2 ATA-100, 2 IDE RAID, 4 USB...). I don't have the board yet, but everything I've heard and read is filled with accolades.

I guess I am a tad late, but my vote goes to EPoX 8K7A or 8K7A+ if you want the onboard IDE RAID. I have the RAID version, it's the cheapest AMD DDR chipset board on the market right now; and a great board for overclockers, since it allow up to +0.4v in CPU core voltage adjustment. Just make sure you have plenty of good cooling, if you are going to go nuts with voltage (like me). I got it from PCNUT.COM.
