I am new to upgrading my computer myself. Usually I would just go to the store by a new system and try to sell the old one on eBay.

So far I have purchased a VisionTek GeForce3 card and I also have 448 MB of SDRAM that I am happy with that. I have an AMD Classic 700 mHz that I was looking to upgrade but ran into a problem, my FIC SD11 motherboard can't take much of an upgrade.

So I figured I would ask the experts........what is the best motherboard to go with keeping in mind that I want to stick with AMD CPU's

BTW, I have read the post below and see that it will help if I provide some more info:

I have a CD-R and CD drive and my lovely 3.5" drive.

I just have one 19 GB hard drive that I willl be using and a Creative Sound Blaster Live sound card.

I would like to stick with my PC133 SDRAM but if someone could convince how much better DDR would be for me then maybe I would consider.

I am not sure how much motherboard's cost but I would like to keep it low in price and not go crazy.

Plus, I would like to just get a motherboard that is compatabile with the most things.

Stan...Welcome to the Forums...your obviously bound to get a lot of answers...because a lot of people like a lot of different stuff. Try looking back at the pages from a couple of day's ago...the same questions always come up. Or...try typing exactly what your subject line states in the "search" section. The search engine on the site is very good w/ basic statements like:

Best Mobo for AMD; Mobo for AMD processor, what mobo do you sugg for AMD, etc, etc. Try it, your bound to find some answers. Good Luck.

Welcome to the forum and hope you get as much out of it as I do.
There are lots of great mobo's out right now for AMD chips. Here are a few items to look for in a mobo;
1. Via KT133A chipset
2. Via Northbridge 8363A chip
3. 3 DIMM slots w/ ability to go 100-160+mhz SDRAM
4. Min. 4 PCI slots and 1 AGP
5. 266 FSB
Here is a very recent review of KT133A Mobo's;

Thanks for the tips. I will keep my eyes open for those requirements and see what I can dig up from the search.

yeah hi, if its good brand names you want, then i will segest what i regard as GOOD mobo's: Abit kt7a ,IWILL kk266 ,most ASUS boards, EPOX 8KTA3L ,MSI K7T266Pro .they would be what id say " the mainstream mobo's with the most features and it would be a hard argument to best 3 of them. hope it helps!

the Abit KT7A board is sweet. Anything by Asus, Abit, or Iwill is reliable.

Don't forget the MSI K7T Turbo! Its a sweet board too!
