I just bought a thermometer from radio shack today :

http://www.radioshack.com/product.asp?catalog_name=CTLG&category_name=&product_id=63-1023

and I was wondering where the best place for the sensor would be?
At first I used the suction cup and stuck it to the side of the case directly opposite my processor, figuring that that would be a good reading of the ambient case temp. Is that right, or would it depend on the air flow? Anyway it gave me readings only a couple of degrees above the room temp.

Right now I’m interested in cpu (T-Bird 1400) temp so I have it stuck into the slot for the clip on my heat sink. Here it gives me a reading of 36.7C. The sensor on the motherboard (Gigabyte GA-7DXR) is telling me 65C. I was told though, that the sensors on these boards are not all that reliable. So how would I be sure to get an accurate reading?

thanks

i'm not sure we're talking about the same thing. the sensor isnt touching the chip at all.

heres kinda what i'm talking about. its not my heat sink but it uses the same clip style.

the sensor is just dangling in that slot where the clip runs through it.

i hope that clears things up.
