Hi,

just need a little advice on speakers that's all as I'm upgrading my onboard sound/cheapo speakers combo. :D

The sound card I'll be ordering is SonicXplosion  but the speakers I'm not sure on, the ones within my budget are:

Altec Lansing ATP3 (read raving reviews about these)
Creative Inspire 5300 (not so good reviews and i'm not after 5.1 anyway tbh)
Logitech Z540 (read raving reviews about these also but they look crap imo - especially when compared to ATP3's)
Videologic ZXR200 (heard fairly good reviews but ATP3's are from what i've heard better)

So what do you lot think?

Cheers.

I have the creative inspires and they sound good, but I wouldn't recomend them since you aren't getting an Audigy, not to mention you don't care for 5.1 (which sounds fantastic w/ EAX in games that support it).

I would say go to a store and listen to /play with each of your choices (if you can), you will be able to tell what sounds better to you. because you will get all kinds of different responses.

I went speaker shopping a couple weeks ago and I was going to decide between the Creative 5300 and the Logitech z-640's.

Well I looked around and played with them and I really wanted the Logitech z-560's, but they were $160ish online and $199 local. I really wanted to sat under $100, I dont remember which I had decided on, uitil I saw the fatal mistake of some "insert store name here" employees mistake. They had maked $139, on the boxes, for the Z-560's. my mind was made up at that point and I walked with the Z-560's which was better for me because I dont watch many movies.

I have the creative 5.1s too, and i think they sound pretty dang good for the price. Better than the review make them out to be IMHO. Also, the other speakers are all smaller systems, 4.1 on the logitech and 2.1 on the other two, and surround sound is cool. And since the soundcard you are getting does support 5.1 it would be nice to have it for future use.

However, if you wanna save up a bit i think speakers that EVERYONE would recommend are the Logitech z560 speakers. 400w, 4.1, THX certified, and around 150 bucks.

WyrmMaster made a good point there .. logitech's speaker sets always get good reviews everywhere .. I own Z540 and the damn thing sounds so nice .. the bass is more than adequate for average user (unless you're into DVD watching on PC, consider Z560 or even newer Z680) ...

My room-mate has ATP3, and he feels jealous for my Z540 .. huh .. he got his ATP3 for $80 shipped when it was first out, and I got my Z540 only recently for $50 shipped (new, from ebay, the seller had 0 rating, nobody seemed to risk it w/ the new seller, but I did, and I'm glad I did :) )

arrrghh, such a difficult decision.

think i might go with the Z540's, hopefully they'll live up to the hype as best budget speakers. ;)

go with the logitech ,they sound great.i own a set klipsch 5.1 too and i can tell you the logitech speakers come close.(but still not the same haha)
