The April MaximumPc had a nice article on the Geforce4. The only mfg's of Geforce4's are leadtek, asus, msicomputers, visiontek, gainward, and pny. I would stay away from the pny and msicomputers. :)

Last year I bought a Visiontek GF3 right when they first came out. I was kinda bummed after I realized that I had paid top dollar for a plane jane Nvidia refference card. Thats what Visiontek puts out, I was able to oc the core from 200 to 235 and the memory from 460 to 540, all stable (after I put on a blue orb). After a few weeks the other cards started to hit the market with better bundles and addons and higher oc'able chips. I am not really complaining but if you wait just a little while longer and read the GF4 Ti 4600 reviews you will begin to see which ones will be the better performers. Personally, I am going with the Evga Ti 4600. I signed up for the stepup program which will let me upgrade to next years Gf5 for the measly price of shipping & tax. OH YEAH! The Evga Ti's come with the bomb cooling, it is new technology and is supposed to wipe the floor with any other video card cooling solutions out there (except of course H2O).

My recommendation list starting with the best. (as it stands now)
1) Evga -Asc2 cooloing baby
2) Gainward -Goldensample is what I'm talken about
3) Asus -They do have some 330 core cards for the $$

Whoa, what is this about eVga's step up program? I want to get a gf4 but after I heard about the gf5 I was thinking of buy a gf2 ti and just waiting it out. So eVga lets you get a gf5 for shipping and handling when it comes out? Do you know if they are going to do it with the 4800?

Well, if you are waiting to get a free upgrade to a Geforce5 you might be getting screwed over. According to Nvida(April 2002 MaximumPC, pg 30) the next graphics chip will come out this fall, but will NOT be a Geforce5. I will be a different name. So if you are gonna get a new Gf5 when it comes out, that probably won't be happening.

It does'nt matter what kind of Nvidia chip it is. What ever chip comes out in the next 18 months can be swapped out in the stepup program. I was just using GF5 as an example. You can only qualify for the stepup program if you PRE-ORDER the TI 4600. I think the program stopped a couple of days ago, but I am not for sure. Go to the Evga website and check it out, it still might be going on.
