im looking looking for the best video card for gaming fps wise. what an i get the gf2 GTS is 47 and the mx400 is 41. what should i go with? please dont tell me to save up for a radeon because this is for a freind and he only has around 40 to 50 dollars highest. This will be for playing tribes 2 if that helps. i see other cards on pw for about this price but dont know anything about them. plz reply. he is looking to up his fps from 30avg to maby low 50s if that is possible. he lags like no other. thanks again.

for 47$ shipped you can get a Radeon32mb DDR from newegg.com and it is better than both of those and has better image quality....

I would recommend the Kyro 2, if you can bump up for that extra $8 plus shipping. It performs at levels above the GTS if you have a good processor behind it.

dont get a Radeon VE
they are a crippled radeon and not worth your time
i have a kyro2
great bang for buck

out of those 2,if its all u can get
the GTS is the superior chip

can anyone post some spec ie core/mem clock or anything else about them.... which one will have the best openGL speed? he is running a 900 celeron with a tnt2 at the moment. seems to me that they r about even the radeon 7000 and the GTS. thanks again

their clocks are incomparable as they are different chips (would be like comparing a 2GHZ athlon to a 2GHZ P4) but the Ram speed on both is 333mhz DDR...really the difference between the two is so small that you wont notice it...just make sure it doesnt say it has dual monitor support then its a VE...

I just upgraded to a PNY Geforce4 Ti4400 from the card mentioned above. I built a system for a friend with a Geforce2 MX400 64mb, and I can really tell a difference in favor of the MX400 over the 32mb GTS. Especially in Unreal and Serious Sam..

I'm not sure if you have bought anything yet but I would have to agree with mbigna and say that the GF2 GTS would be the fastest card within your reach.

The only problem is you said $50.00 max and that card is $48.00 plus (if you are shipping to Mass) $5.00 shipping which would put you at $53.00.

I understand about staying with in a budget so the next fastest card (with much better image quality) on newegg is the Radeon 32MB. That is the real Radeon, not the stripped down VE / 7000 version. It would be still a big improvement over the TNT and it is well within your budget at only $39.00.

Let us know what you decided.

don't get the Radeon VE....it will not get u any fps and is a crap card........i have one and it is incompatable with a lot of games. It is slow and not worth your time. Get the GeForce 2 GTS 32mb......it outperformed the voodoo 5 5500 a while back. With the new hardware drivers it is worth it. The mx is good but you will not get as good of performance as the GTS, i have one o those too.

Prices sure have come down since i bought my mx400....i got it for 69. ohh well that was 8 months ago. If u can spare the money go with a good quality radeon and make sure u read reviews on the best card.

Well i had a Geforce 2GTS ,and i never had any complaints. It ran gmes smoothly, and it played DVD's flawlessly. But an original radeon 32MB would also be a good choice. As for the whole radeon vs. GTS issue. It would be tough to say that either card is superior. because really both of these cards can run neck and neck with one another it's more or less like comparing apples and apples. Although every says that 2d and DVD image quality is better on the radeon, but i never had an original radeon so i can't say.

As for you asking about the GTS-V well i heard people say that it's not all that great. So if possible i would say get an original GTS or an orignal radeon, those 2 would be the best for under $50. And side note, i paid $165 for my Geforce 2 GTS 32MB. Boy how times have changed.
